EN 10028-3 P275NL2 Steel Plate | P275NL2 -50°C Vessel Plate supplier
What is EN 10028-3 P275NL2 Steel?
P275NL2 is the −50 °C quality in the P275 family of EN 10028-3. Buyers search EN 10028-3 P275NL2, P275NL2 steel plate, 1.1104, P275NL2 -50°C vessel plate and P275NL2 supplier. NL2 is colder than NL1. This page is not P275NL1. NL1 is −40 °C. This page is not P275NH. NH is elevated-temperature quality. This page is not P355NL2. That grade is a 355 MPa step.
Yield is 275 MPa at ≤16 mm. Tensile is 390–510 MPa. Steel number is 1.1104. Delivery is normalized (+N). Charpy is specified at −50 °C when the order follows NL2. SHH STEEL is a global steel mill sourcing partner and steel manufacturer & exporter (mill-direct, China origin) supplying this grade to the USA, Europe, Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa and South America.
Do not ship P275NL1 against a P275NL2 drawing and call minus forty close to minus fifty. Do not ship 16MnDR steel plate and call −40 °C the same as −50 °C. Dual marking is possible only when chemistry, tensile, impact temperature and delivery all fit.
Company scope: global exporter SHH STEEL.

This plate sits in pressure vessel steel plates and carbon steel plates. Chinese low-temperature comparisons belong on GB/T 713.3. Nickel cryogenic plate belongs on GB/T 713.4. EN 10028-2 high-temperature sisters belong on EN 10028-2.
Chemical Composition
Cast analysis follows EN 10028-3. Product analysis follows EN 10028-1 when ordered. People who search P275NL2 chemical composition and 1.1104 chemistry want a fine-grain toughness analysis, not a P275NH table copied across.

Nickel may sit toward the top of the residual band because NL2 is a colder toughness quality. Sulfur and phosphorus stay tight. This is still C-Mn fine-grain plate, not 3.5Ni and not 9Ni. SHH STEEL reports cast analysis on every certificate and product analysis when ordered. Density is 7.85 g/cm³.
Mechanical Properties
Buyers search P275NL2 mechanical properties, P275NL2 impact and P275NL2 -50°C. Yield still falls with thickness. Impact is the NL2 item.
Tensile and Yield — EN 10028-3 P275NL2
| Thickness (mm) | Yield min (MPa) | Tensile (MPa) |
|---|---|---|
| ≤ 16 | 275 | 390 – 510 |
| 16 – 40 | 265 | 390 – 510 |
| 40 – 60 | 255 | 390 – 510 |

| 100 – 150 | 225 | 360 – 500 |
| Density | 7.85 g/cm³ | 7.85 g/cm³ |
Elongation is typically 24% min on thinner plate. Charpy for NL2 is −50 °C. Energy is commonly 27 J average when the order follows the book. Location and orientation must be written. Do not assume NL1 −40 °C is enough for an NL2 drawing.
Do not quote 275 MPa yield on an 80 mm plate. Do not treat −50 °C as permission to stamp 15MnNiNbDR steel plate or SA662 Grade B without checking both books.

-50°C Fine-Grain Pressure-Vessel Service
Buyers pick P275NL2 when a PED file wants 275 MPa fine-grain plate and Charpy at −50 °C. Search phrases such as P275NL2 -50°C, P275NL2 boiler plate and 1.1104 steel plate all point here.
It is not a substitute for 09MnNiDR steel plate. That grade is −70 °C. It is not a substitute for 08Ni3DR steel plate. That grade is 3.5Ni around −100 °C. It is not LNG inner-tank plate. That work belongs on 06Ni9DR steel plate.
An ASME file should name SA-662 with the matching impact extra, or SA-516 with a written −50 °C test. Dual marking is possible only when both books are met. SHH STEEL supplies this plate to fabricators in the United States, Mexico, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
Weldability
P275NL2 is killed fine-grain C-Mn vessel plate at a colder impact temperature than NL1. Treat welding as production welding, and as PED / ASME Code welding when the equipment is a vessel.
Qualify to the applicable code. Consumables must keep toughness at −50 °C, not only at −40 °C. A procedure written for SA516 Grade 70 is not automatically valid. A nickel procedure written for SA203 Grade D is the wrong family. Heat input and hydrogen control matter more on NL2 than on NH. The fabricator owns the WPS. SHH STEEL can share mill heat data for that review.
Heat Treatment and Delivery Condition
Usual delivery from SHH STEEL is normalized EN 10028-3 P275NL2 (+N). Buyers who search P275NL2 normalized are asking for this route.
If the vessel will see PWHT, say so. Impact after simulated PWHT should be named on a −50 °C file. Extra simulation, 3.2 hold points or special NDE add time. Plan about two months when those extras are on the order.
The certificate lists EN 10028-3 P275NL2; 1.1104; heat number; cast analysis; product analysis when ordered; tensile to the correct thickness column; +N; Charpy at −50 °C when ordered. Certificates may be EN 10204 3.1 or EN 10204 3.2.
Dimensions
Usual supply range from SHH STEEL for P275NL2 -50°C vessel plate:
- Thickness: commonly 6 mm – 150 mm, thicker by mill agreement
- Width: 1500 mm – 4000 mm
- Length: 3000 mm – 12000 mm
Structural fine-grain plate belongs on EN 10025-3. Ship plate belongs on shipbuilding steel plates.
Tolerances
Dimensional limits for EN 10028-3 P275NL2 follow EN 10028-1 and EN 10029 unless the purchase order names another table. Class A is the usual default. Class B, Class C and Class D exist when the fabricator needs a tighter or one-sided thickness extra.
Thickness is the first argument on a −50 °C vessel. If the calculation used minimum thickness after corrosion allowance, write whether minus tolerance is allowed. A 20 mm P275NL2 plate ordered Class A is not the same delivered plate as a 20 mm plate ordered with minus restricted to 0.3 mm. Write the class next to the thickness.
Width and length tolerances also sit in EN 10029. If the nesting program needs +0 / −5 mm on length, that is an order line. Edge condition should be mill edge or trimmed edge. Flame-cut edges on fine-grain plate pick up a heat-affected rim. If that edge will be welded without a clean-up cut, say so before burning.
Flatness matters when the plate becomes a head or a tube-sheet blank. Ask for a flatness class and for flattening after normalizing if CNC cutting is planned. Out-of-square and camber should be named on 12 000 mm shell courses.
For dual-name work against SA662 Grade B, do not mix EN 10029 Class A with SA-20 extras without a sentence on the purchase order. SHH STEEL follows the tighter of the two named tables when both are written. Do not apply ASTM A36 structural tolerances to a PED −50 °C plate without writing them.
Marking must survive shot blast: heat number, P275NL2, 1.1104, +N, and −50 °C when that is the impact mark.
Supplementary Requirements
NL2 files live on extras. The base book gives chemistry, +N and the −50 °C idea. The purchase order still has to name the rest.
Charpy details. Write −50 °C, joules, number of specimens, location and orientation. Transverse is the usual vessel request. Do not write “impact as per EN 10028-3” and expect the mill to guess NL2.
Impact after simulated PWHT. If the vessel will be stress-relieved, coupons should see the same cycle. A −50 °C result on the as-normalized plate is not the same as a −50 °C result after a 600 °C hold.
Product analysis. Add this when the destination file wants finished-plate chemistry, especially P, S, Al and N.
Through-thickness / Z-test. Name Z15, Z25 or Z35 when the plate is a thick nozzle or a pad.
NDE. EN 10160 class, or ASTM A435 / A578 if the ASME file uses those tables.
HIC / NACE. Only when the process stream is sour. P275NL2 is not automatically HIC-tested.
Third-party. EN 10204 3.2 with SGS, TÜV, BV, ABS, CCS, DNV or the inspector named. Book the hold point before rolling.
Applications
| Industry | Typical components |
|---|---|
| PED low-temp vessels | EN 10028-3 P275NL2 shells at −50 °C |
| Cold storage / tank farms | P275NL2 courses |
| Heat-exchanger shells | P275NL2 channels from SHH STEEL |
| Dual-certified export | P275NL2 / 15MnNiNbDR steel plate when both books fit |
| ASME comparison jobs | P275NL2 next to SA662 Grade B |
P275NL2 shows up on European equipment that is colder than NL1 and not yet in the 3.5Ni book. It is the wrong plate for LNG inner tanks. That work belongs on 06Ni9DR steel plate. It is the wrong plate for a 355 MPa calculation. That work belongs on P355NL2. It is the wrong plate for a file that only wants elevated-temperature proof strength. That work belongs on P275NH.
If the drawing lists winter design temperature at −50 °C, keep NL2 on the mill order. A tank designed at −40 °C can be P275NL1. A tank designed at −50 °C cannot.

Why Choose SHH STEEL
SHH STEEL is a global steel mill sourcing partner and steel manufacturer & exporter (mill-direct, China origin). On EN 10028-3 P275NL2 that means mill pricing from first-line mills, 1.1104 chemistry, recorded +N, Charpy at −50 °C when ordered, 3.1 as standard and 3.2 when specified.
We keep the grade on the order. P275NL2 is not P275NL1. P275NL2 is not P275NH. P275NL2 is not EN 10028-2 P265GH. P275NL2 is not Q345R steel plate. If the drawing says −40 °C, we will not ship NL2 and call colder automatically better without the buyer writing the name.
Company scope: global exporter SHH STEEL.
