What is EN 10028-3 P460NH Steel?

P460NH is the elevated-temperature quality in the P460 family of EN 10028-3. Buyers search EN 10028-3 P460NH, P460NH steel plate, 1.8935, P460NH fine grain vessel plate and P460NH supplier. The letters NH mean normalized fine-grain plate with specified elevated-temperature properties. This page is not P460NL1. NL1 is −40 °C. This page is not P460NL2. NL2 is −50 °C. This page is not P355NH. That grade is a 355 MPa step. This page is not S460N. S460N is EN 10025-3 structural steel.

Yield is 460 MPa at ≤16 mm. Tensile is 570–720 MPa. Steel number is 1.8935. Delivery is normalized (+N). Elevated-temperature proof strength is the reason the H is in the name. Ask for that table when the vessel calculation uses design temperature. SHH STEEL is a global steel mill sourcing partner and steel manufacturer & exporter (mill-direct, China origin). We buy this grade from qualified Chinese mills, check the certificate against EN 10028-3, and ship it to fabricators in the USA, Europe, Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa and South America.

If a drawing says P460NL1, we will not ship P460NH and call 460 enough. If a drawing says P355NH, we will not ship P460NH and call stronger automatically acceptable. Dual marking with Q460R steel plate is possible only when both books are fully met.

Company scope: global exporter SHH STEEL.

460 MPa comes from fine grain plus normalizing, not from a high-carbon melt. This is still C-Mn fine-grain plate, not 0.3Mo and not 1.25Cr-0.5Mo. SHH STEEL prints heat analysis on every certificate and product analysis when ordered. Density is 7.85 g/cm³.

Mechanical Properties

Buyers search P460NH mechanical properties, P460NH yield strength and P460NH elevated temperature. Yield falls as thickness rises.

Elongation is typically 17–19% min on thinner plate. Impact for NH is commonly specified at 0 °C, 27 J, when the order names it. That is not −40 °C. Elevated-temperature proof strength is the NH item. Ask for the EN 10028-3 high-temperature table when the vessel calculation uses design temperature. SHH STEEL will not print those values on a P460NL1 certificate and call it NH.

Do not quote 460 MPa yield on an 80 mm plate. Do not treat 570–720 MPa tensile as permission to stamp Q460R steel plate or SA537 Class 1 without checking both books.

Elevated-Temperature 460 MPa Fine-Grain Service

P460NH is used on PED drums, shells and heat-exchanger courses that need 460 MPa fine-grain plate and elevated-temperature proof strength. That is the H. A designer who wants −40 °C Charpy is asking for P460NL1. A designer who only wants 355 MPa NH is asking for P355NH.

It is not a substitute for EN 10028-2 16Mo3. That grade is 0.3Mo. It is not a substitute for EN 10028-2 13CrMo4-5. That grade is 1.25Cr-0.5Mo. An ASME file should name SA-537 or SA-516 / SA-515 and then write extras. Dual marking is possible only when both books are met.

SHH STEEL supplies this plate to fabricators in the United States, Mexico, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Weldability

P460NH is killed fine-grain C-Mn vessel plate at 570–720 MPa tensile. Treat welding as production welding, and as PED / ASME Code welding when the equipment is a vessel.

Qualify to the applicable code. Consumables must match the 460 MPa / 570–720 MPa band. A procedure written for SA516 Grade 70 may be light on strength. A Cr-Mo procedure written for SA387 Grade 12 Class 1 is the wrong family. Heat input and hydrogen control matter more at this strength than on P355NH. The fabricator owns the WPS. SHH STEEL can share mill heat data for that review.

Heat Treatment and Delivery Condition

Usual delivery from SHH STEEL is normalized EN 10028-3 P460NH (+N).

If the vessel will see PWHT, say so. Test coupons then follow a simulated cycle. Extra simulation, 3.2 hold points or special NDE add time. Plan about two months when those extras are on the order.

The certificate lists EN 10028-3 P460NH; 1.8935; heat number; cast analysis; product analysis when ordered; tensile to the correct thickness column; +N; impact when ordered; elevated-temperature values when ordered. Certificates may be EN 10204 3.1 or EN 10204 3.2.

Dimensions

Usual supply range from SHH STEEL for P460NH fine grain vessel plate:

  • Thickness: commonly 8 mm – 120 mm, thicker by mill agreement
  • Width: 1500 mm – 4000 mm
  • Length: 3000 mm – 12000 mm

Structural 460 fine-grain plate belongs on EN 10025-3. QT high-strength plate belongs on EN 10025-6.

Tolerances

Dimensional limits follow EN 10028-1 and EN 10029 unless the order names another table. Class A is the usual default. If the calculation used minimum thickness after corrosion, write the allowed minus. Do not apply ASTM A36 structural tolerances to a PED 460 MPa plate without writing them. When dual-named against Q460R steel plate, write which thickness table governs.

Supplementary Requirements

Charpy details. NH commonly uses 0 °C. Do not assume −40 °C.

Elevated-temperature proof strength. This is the NH item. Write the design temperatures needed on the certificate.

Product analysis. Especially P, S, Al, N, Nb and V.

Simulated PWHT. When the equipment will be stress-relieved.

NDE. EN 10160 or the named UT class.

Third-party. EN 10204 3.2 when written.

Why Choose SHH STEEL

Experience on this grade is simple: 460 MPa and the H must both be on the certificate. SHH STEEL as a global steel mill sourcing partner and steel manufacturer & exporter (mill-direct, China origin) prices P460NH from first-line mills, reports 1.8935 chemistry, records +N, prints elevated-temperature values when ordered, and issues 3.1 as standard or 3.2 when specified.

We keep the grade on the order. P460NH is not P460NL1. P460NH is not P460NL2. P460NH is not P355NH. P460NH is not Q345R steel plate. If the drawing says P355NH, we will not ship 460 and call stronger automatically acceptable.

Company scope: global exporter SHH STEEL.

FAQ

What is P460NH steel plate?
P460NH is an EN 10028-3 normalized fine-grain pressure-vessel plate, steel number 1.8935. Yield is 460 MPa at ≤16 mm and tensile is 570–720 MPa. NH means the mill must supply specified elevated-temperature proof strength on a fine-grain +N route, not only room-temperature tensile. SHH STEEL supplies this plate worldwide as a global steel mill sourcing partner and prints the high-temperature values when the order names the design temperatures.
What is the equivalent of P460NH?
elated talk grades are Q460R, SA-537 Class 1 and SA-516 / SA-515 Grade 70. Those names help a buyer find the right page. They do not authorize substitution. Dual marking is possible only when chemistry, tensile, impact, elevated-temperature values and delivery all fit both books. SHH STEEL will not stamp Q460R on a P460NH plate unless the Chinese book is also met.
How is P460NH different from P460NL1 and P460NL2?
All three sit at the 460 MPa yield step. NH is the elevated-temperature quality. NL1 is Charpy at −40 °C. NL2 is Charpy at −50 °C. A boiler that used high-temperature proof strength in the calculation needs NH. A tank that used −40 °C or −50 °C in the calculation needs NL1 or NL2. SHH STEEL will not mix those letters on the same certificate.
How is P460NH different from P355NH?
Same quality letter, different strength step. P355NH is 355 MPa at ≤16 mm and 490–630 MPa tensile. P460NH is 460 MPa at ≤16 mm and 570–720 MPa tensile. Welding consumables and thickness design change with that step. Do not ship P460NH against a P355NH drawing and call stronger automatically acceptable.
Is P460NH the same as S460N or S460NL?
No. S460N and S460NL are EN 10025-3 structural fine-grain steels. P460NH is EN 10028-3 pressure-vessel plate. A PED vessel file that names P460NH cannot be closed with S460N plate.
Does P460NH include −40 °C impact?
Not by the grade name. NH commonly uses 0 °C impact when impact is ordered. −40 °C is P460NL1. If the file needs both elevated-temperature values and −40 °C, write both requirements on the purchase order and let the mill confirm the route. Do not assume one letter covers the other.
Can SHH STEEL ship P460NH to the USA, Europe or the Middle East?
Yes. SHH STEEL quotes FOB Shanghai and CIF to US West, US Gulf, Rotterdam, Jebel Ali, Singapore and other major ports. We have supplied vessel plate to the USA, Mexico, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Lead time is about 5–7 days from stock, about 45 days for standard +N rolling, and about two months when simulated PWHT or 3.2 inspection is added.
What is the delivery time and what certificate can SHH STEEL issue?
Ex-stock about 5–7 days when plate is in yard. Standard +N mill rolling about 45 days. Simulated PWHT, extra UT or EN 10204 3.2 about two months. EN 10204 3.1 is standard. EN 10204 3.2 is arranged with SGS, TÜV, BV, ABS, CCS, DNV or the inspector named on the order. Payment is TT, LC, or TT + LC.
What is the density of P460NH?
7.85 g/cm³. Use that figure for weight estimates. Final shipped weight follows the mill plate list and the ordered tolerance class.
