EN 10028-3 P355N Steel Plate | P355N Fine Grain Vessel Plate supplier
What is EN 10028-3 P355N Steel?
P355N is the room-temperature quality in the P355 family of EN 10028-3. Buyers search EN 10028-3 P355N, P355N steel plate, 1.0562, P355N fine grain vessel plate and P355N supplier. The letter N means normalized fine-grain plate with room-temperature quality. It does not mean P355NH. NH adds specified elevated-temperature properties. It does not mean P355NL1 or P355NL2. Those grades carry −40 °C or −50 °C impact. It does not mean EN 10028-2 P355GH. GH is a different part of EN 10028. It does not mean S355N. S355N is EN 10025-3 structural steel.
Yield is 355 MPa at ≤16 mm. Tensile is 490–630 MPa. Steel number is 1.0562. Delivery is normalized (+N). Grain refining is part of the specification, not a mill slogan. SHH STEEL is a global steel mill sourcing partner and steel manufacturer & exporter (mill-direct, China origin). We buy this grade from qualified Chinese mills, check the certificate against EN 10028-3, and ship it to fabricators in the USA, Europe, Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa and South America.
If a drawing says P355NH, we will not ship P355N and call N close to NH. If a drawing says P355NL1, we will not ship P355N and call 355 MPa enough. Dual marking is possible only when chemistry, tensile, impact, grain practice and delivery all fit both books.
Company scope: global exporter SHH STEEL.

This plate sits in pressure vessel steel plates and carbon steel plates. EN 10028-2 high-temperature sisters belong on EN 10028-2. Chinese vessel comparisons belong on GB/T 713. Low-temperature Chinese comparisons belong on GB/T 713.3.
Chemical Composition
Cast analysis follows EN 10028-3. Product analysis follows EN 10028-1 when the order names finished-plate chemistry. The figures below are the usual P355N limits used on mill certificates. Thickness can tighten carbon. Always read the certificate against the ordered thickness.
Cast Analysis and Product Analysis — EN 10028-3 P355N (1.0562)
| Element | Cast Analysis (%) | Product Analysis, when ordered (%) |
|---|---|---|
| Carbon (C), max | 0.18 | 0.20 |
| Silicon (Si), max | 0.50 | 0.55 |
| Manganese (Mn) | 1.10 – 1.70 | 1.05 – 1.80 |

| Titanium (Ti), max | 0.03 | 0.04 |
| Vanadium (V), max | 0.10 | 0.12 |
Aluminum minimum is there to kill the steel and help grain size. Niobium, titanium and vanadium stay limited. This is C-Mn fine-grain plate, not 0.3Mo and not 1.25Cr-0.5Mo. SHH STEEL prints heat analysis on every certificate and product analysis when ordered. Density is 7.85 g/cm³.
Mechanical Properties
Buyers search P355N mechanical properties, P355N yield strength and 1.0562 tensile. Yield falls as thickness rises. The ≤16 mm headline is not a licence to stamp 355 MPa on a 80 mm plate.
Tensile and Yield — EN 10028-3 P355N
| Thickness (mm) | Yield min (MPa) | Tensile (MPa) |
|---|---|---|
| ≤ 16 | 355 | 490 – 630 |
| 16 – 40 | 345 | 490 – 630 |
| 40 – 60 | 335 | 490 – 630 |
| 60 – 100 | 315 | 470 – 630 |
| 100 – 150 | 295 | 460 – 630 |
| 150 – 250 | 280 | 450 – 630 |
| Density | 7.85 g/cm³ | 7.85 g/cm³ |
Elongation is typically 22% min on thinner plate. Room-temperature quality N does not automatically include −40 °C Charpy. If the file needs −40 °C, the grade name is P355NL1, not P355N. If the file needs elevated-temperature proof strength, the grade name is P355NH. SHH STEEL will not put those extras on a P355N certificate unless the order names them and the mill route supports them.
Do not treat 490–630 MPa tensile as permission to stamp Q345R steel plate or SA516 Grade 70 without checking both books.

Equivalent Material Grades
Experience on the desk: most “P355N equivalent” searches are trying to land on Q345R, SA-516 Grade 70 or P355GH. Those are talk grades. They are not a warehouse substitute.

Fine-Grain Pressure-Vessel Service
P355N is used on PED drums, shells and heat-exchanger courses that need 355 MPa fine-grain plate and do not name NH or NL impact. That is a real, narrow job. A designer who calculated on P355NH proof strength at temperature is not asking for P355N. A designer who calculated on −40 °C Charpy is not asking for P355N.
It is not a substitute for 16MnDR steel plate. That grade is −40 °C. It is not a substitute for EN 10028-2 16Mo3. That grade is 0.3Mo. An ASME file should name SA-516 and then write extras. Dual marking is possible only when both books are met.
SHH STEEL supplies this plate to fabricators in the United States, Mexico, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. We do not list a country unless we have actually shipped plate there.
Weldability
P355N is killed fine-grain C-Mn vessel plate in the 490–630 MPa tensile band. Treat welding as production welding, and as PED / ASME Code welding when the equipment is a vessel.
Qualify to the applicable code. Consumables must match the P355N tensile band. A procedure written for SA516 Grade 60 may be light. A Cr-Mo procedure written for SA387 Grade 12 Class 1 is the wrong family. Fine-grain plate usually welds cleanly if heat input and hydrogen are controlled. The fabricator owns the WPS. SHH STEEL can share mill heat data for that review. We do not sell a WPS as if it were a mill extra.
Heat Treatment and Delivery Condition
Usual delivery from SHH STEEL is normalized EN 10028-3 P355N (+N). As-rolled is not the default for this book.
If the vessel will see PWHT, say so. Test coupons then follow a simulated cycle. Extra simulation, 3.2 hold points or special NDE add time. Plan about two months when those extras are on the order.
The certificate lists EN 10028-3 P355N; 1.0562; heat number; cast analysis; product analysis when ordered; tensile to the correct thickness column; +N; impact only when ordered. Certificates may be EN 10204 3.1 or EN 10204 3.2. We issue 3.1 from the mill as standard. We do not print 3.2 on a 3.1 heat.
Dimensions
Usual supply range from SHH STEEL for P355N fine grain vessel plate:
- Thickness: commonly 6 mm – 150 mm, thicker by mill agreement
- Width: 1500 mm – 4000 mm
- Length: 3000 mm – 12000 mm
Ship plate inquiries belong on shipbuilding steel plates. Structural fine-grain plate belongs on EN 10025-3.
Tolerances
Dimensional limits follow EN 10028-1 and EN 10029 unless the order names another table. Class A is the usual default. If the calculation used minimum thickness after corrosion, write the allowed minus. Do not apply ASTM A36 structural tolerances to a PED fine-grain vessel plate without writing them. When dual-named against SA516 Grade 70, write whether EN 10029 or SA-20 governs thickness extra.
Supplementary Requirements
Charpy details. P355N does not assume −40 °C. Write temperature and orientation if impact is required.
Product analysis. Add this when the destination file wants finished-plate chemistry.
Elevated-temperature proof strength. That item belongs on P355NH. Do not hide it on a P355N order.
Simulated PWHT. When the equipment will be stress-relieved.
NDE. EN 10160 or the named UT class.
Third-party. EN 10204 3.2 when written.
Applications
| Industry | Typical components |
|---|---|
| PED boilers and drums | EN 10028-3 P355N shells |
| Fine-grain heat-exchanger shells | P355N courses |
| Room-temp fine-grain vessels | P355N plate from SHH STEEL |
| Dual-certified export | P355N / Q345R steel plate when both books fit |
P355N is the plate for a file that wants 355 MPa fine-grain normalized steel and does not name NH or NL. It is the wrong plate for a winter tank at −40 °C. That work is P355NL1. It is the wrong plate for a calculation that used EN 10028-2 elevated-temperature tables. That work is EN 10028-2 P355GH or P355NH.
Supply Capability
SHH STEEL sources EN 10028-3 P355N from first-line Chinese mills and ships it on worldwide terms. Partner mills include Wuyang (Wugang), Angang, Shougang, Hanye, Anyang Iron & Steel, Baosteel, Xinyu, Xingcheng, Yongjin, Tsingshan, TISCO (Taiyuan), Jiuquan (JISCO), Lianzhong, Zhangpu and Baoxin, plus other qualified mills when the size or normalizing route requires it. We name mills we actually use. We do not invent a mill to win a search snippet.
Mill test certificates are issued to EN 10204 3.1 as standard. EN 10204 3.2 is arranged when the order names a third-party hold point.
Usual stock and rolling thickness: 8 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm, 16 mm, 20 mm, 25 mm, 30 mm, 32 mm, 36 mm, 40 mm, 50 mm, 60 mm, 80 mm, 100 mm, thicker by mill agreement.

Why Choose SHH STEEL
Experience on this grade is simple: keep the letter after P355. N, NH, NL1 and NL2 are four different purchase orders. SHH STEEL as a global steel mill sourcing partner and steel manufacturer & exporter (mill-direct, China origin) prices P355N from first-line mills, reports 1.0562 chemistry as cast analysis and as product analysis when ordered, records +N, and issues 3.1 as standard or 3.2 when specified.
We keep the grade on the order. P355N is not P355NH. P355N is not P355NL1. P355N is not EN 10028-2 P355GH. P355N is not Q345R steel plate. If the drawing says P355NL2, we will not ship P355N and call fine grain close.
Company scope: global exporter SHH STEEL.
