EN 10028-2 16Mo3 Steel Plate | 16Mo3 0.3Mo Vessel Plate
What is EN 10028-2 16Mo3 Steel?
16Mo3 is the first alloy step in EN 10028-2. Buyers search EN 10028-2 16Mo3, 16Mo3 0.3Mo vessel plate, 1.5415 and 16Mo3 steel plate. The name means about 0.16% carbon and 0.3% molybdenum. GH carbon grades such as P265GH and P355GH do not carry this molybdenum band.
Yield is 275 MPa at ≤16 mm. Tensile is 440–590 MPa. Steel number is 1.5415. Delivery is usually normalized (+N) or normalized and tempered (+NT). SHH STEEL is a global steel mill sourcing partner and steel manufacturer & exporter (mill-direct, China origin) for this grade.
Do not ship P355GH against a 16Mo3 drawing. P355GH has no 0.25–0.35% Mo. Do not ship SA387 Grade 12 Class 1 steel plate and call 1.25Cr-0.5Mo the same as 0.3Mo. The closest ASME comparison is often ASME SA204 Grade A steel plate or ASME SA204 Grade B steel plate. Dual marking is possible only when chemistry, tensile, impact and delivery all fit.

Chemical Composition
Cast analysis follows EN 10028-2 Table 1. Product analysis follows EN 10028-1 when ordered.
Cast Analysis and Product Analysis — EN 10028-2 16Mo3 (1.5415)

Molybdenum is the alloy that makes 16Mo3 different from P265GH and P355GH. It is not 1.25Cr-0.5Mo and not 2.25Cr-1Mo. SHH STEEL reports cast analysis on every certificate and product analysis when the order names it. Density is 7.85 g/cm³.
Mechanical Properties
Room-temperature values below are the usual thickness columns. Yield falls as thickness rises. Use the thickness column on the mill certificate.
Tensile and Yield — EN 10028-2 16Mo3
| Thickness (mm) | Yield min (MPa) | Tensile (MPa) |
|---|---|---|
| ≤ 16 | 275 | 440 – 590 |
| 16 – 40 | 270 | 440 – 590 |
| 40 – 60 | 260 | 440 – 590 |
| 60 – 100 | 240 | 430 – 580 |
| 100 – 150 | 220 | 420 – 570 |
| Density | 7.85 g/cm³ | 7.85 g/cm³ |
Elongation is typically 22% min on thinner plate. Impact at 0 °C, 27 J, is the usual option when the order names it. Elevated-temperature proof strength is part of EN 10028-2. Ask for the elevated-temperature table when the vessel calculation uses design temperature.
Do not quote 275 MPa yield on a 80 mm plate. Do not treat 440–590 MPa tensile as permission to stamp ASME SA204 Grade C steel plate or ASME SA302 Grade B steel plate without checking both books.

0.3Mo Pressure-Vessel Service
Buyers pick 16Mo3 for PED boilers, superheater-adjacent shells, heat-exchanger channels and high-temperature vessels that need a modest molybdenum lift over P265GH / P355GH. It is not a 1.25Cr-0.5Mo plate and not a 2.25Cr-1Mo plate.
Do not ship SA387 Grade 11 Class 2 steel plate or SA387 Grade 22 Class 2 steel plate against 16Mo3. Those are Cr-Mo books. An ASME file that wants molybdenum plate should name SA-204 on ASME SA204 and then write extras. Dual marking is possible only when both books are met.
SHH STEEL supplies this plate to fabricators in the United States, Mexico, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
Weldability
16Mo3 is 0.3Mo vessel plate. Treat welding as production welding, and as PED / ASME Code welding when the equipment is a vessel.
Qualify to the applicable code. ASME dual-name work uses ASME Section IX. Consumables must match 0.3Mo practice. A carbon procedure written for SA516 Grade 70 carbon steel plates is not automatically valid. A 1.25Cr-0.5Mo procedure written for SA387 Grade 12 Class 2 steel plate is the next family, not this one. Preheat follows thickness and hydrogen control. The fabricator owns the WPS. SHH STEEL can share mill heat data for that review.
Heat Treatment and Delivery Condition
Usual delivery from SHH STEEL is normalized EN 10028-2 16Mo3 (+N) or normalized and tempered (+NT) when the mill route and the order require it.
If the vessel will see PWHT, say so. Test coupons then follow a simulated cycle. Extra simulation, 3.2 hold points or special NDE add time. Plan about two months when those extras are on the order.
The certificate lists EN 10028-2 16Mo3; 1.5415; heat number; cast analysis; product analysis when ordered; tensile to the correct thickness column; +N or +NT; impact when ordered; elevated-temperature values when ordered. Certificates may be EN 10204 3.1 or EN 10204 3.2.
Dimensions
Usual supply range from SHH STEEL for 16Mo3 0.3Mo vessel plate:
- Thickness: commonly 6 mm – 150 mm, thicker by mill agreement
- Width: 1500 mm – 4000 mm
- Length: 3000 mm – 12000 mm
Cr-Mo vessel plate belongs on 15CrMoR steel plate, 14Cr1MoR steel plate or 12Cr2Mo1R steel plate. Carbon vessel plate belongs on Q345R steel plate.
Tolerances
Dimensional limits follow EN 10028-1 and EN 10029 unless the order names another tolerance table. Do not apply ASTM A36/A36M structural tolerances to a PED vessel plate without writing them.
Supplementary Requirements
Charpy details. Temperature, energy, location and orientation. 0 °C / 27 J is common, not assumed.
Product analysis. Add this when the destination file wants finished-plate chemistry.
Elevated-temperature proof strength. Add this when the calculation uses design temperature.
Simulated PWHT. When the equipment will be stress-relieved.
NDE. EN 10160 or the named UT class.
Third-party. EN 10204 3.2 when written.

Why Choose SHH STEEL
SHH STEEL is a global steel mill sourcing partner and steel manufacturer & exporter (mill-direct, China origin). On EN 10028-2 16Mo3 that means mill pricing, 1.5415 chemistry reported as cast analysis and as product analysis when ordered, recorded +N or +NT, tensile results to the correct thickness column, 3.1 as standard and 3.2 when specified.
We keep the grade on the order. 16Mo3 is not P355GH. 16Mo3 is not SA387 Grade 12 Class 1 steel plate. 16Mo3 is not Q345R steel plate. If the drawing says 13CrMo4-5, we will not ship 16Mo3 and call molybdenum close.
