JIS G3115 SPV450, also written SPV 450, SPV450Q, JISG3115 SPV450 and SPV450 steel plate, is a weldable pressure-vessel plate under JIS G3115. The standard title is Steel plates for pressure vessels for intermediate temperature service. SPV450 is the first grade in that book whose usual route is quench and temper. Yield is 450 MPa at 6–50 mm. Tensile is 570–700 MPa. Thickness may run to 150 mm. Normalize is allowed by agreement. A purchase order that only says “SPV450 plate” is incomplete if the drawing needs QT. Write JIS G3115 SPV450 and the delivery route. Do not ship TMCP SPV410 against an SPV450 QT drawing. Do not ship SPV490 against an SPV450 drawing. Do not ship SA516 Gr.70 and stamp SPV450 because tensile looks close.

JIS G3115 is not a low-temperature vessel book. Low-temperature Japanese plate belongs under JIS G3126. It is not boiler plate under JIS G3103 SB. It is not ordinary structural plate under JIS G3106. Intermediate-temperature service means the plate is intended for pressure vessels and high-pressure equipment that are not specified for high-temperature or low-temperature service under other JIS books.

This page is not DIN 17100 St52-3. It is not EN 10025-6 S460Q even though both can be QT. It is not Cr-Mo under ASME SA387 or Ni-Cr-Mo under ASME SA543.

This plate sits in pressure vessel steel plates and high strength low alloy plates. ASME comparisons belong on ASME SA517, ASME SA537 and ASME SA738, not as automatic substitutes.

JIS G3115 SPV450 / SPV 450 heat analysis is given in JIS G3115 Table 3. Product analysis is not printed as a second official column in that table. When a destination file asks for product analysis, SHH STEEL applies the usual JIS check-analysis practice (JIS G0321 style): finished-plate chemistry is allowed a small extra tolerance over heat analysis. Write “heat + product analysis” on the order if both are required.

Heat Analysis and Product Analysis — JIS G3115 SPV450

Other elements may be added for deoxidation, hardenability or grain practice. For normalized SPV450, extra alloy additions follow agreement. For QT SPV450, Pcm limits from JIS G3115 also apply. Do not treat an SPV410 heat as SPV450. Do not treat an SPV490 heat as SPV450. SHH STEEL reports heat analysis on every certificate and product analysis when the order names it.

Yield starts at 450 MPa at 6–50 mm and falls as thickness rises.

Tensile and Yield — JIS G3115 SPV450

Elongation depends on thickness and specimen type. Bend testing is specified. Charpy energy for SPV450 is commonly 0 °C. Write the test temperature if the destination file wants something other than the JIS default.

Do not quote 450 MPa yield on a 120 mm plate. Do not treat 570–700 MPa tensile as permission to stamp SA516 Gr.70, SA517 Gr.B or SA738 Gr.B.

Same book. Different strength and different heat-treatment default. SHH STEEL will not ship TMCP SPV410 against an SPV450 QT drawing.

SA203 Gr.A, SA517 Gr.A and SA737 Gr.C are also vessel or HSLA plates. None of them is SPV450.

JIS G3115 SPV450 / SPV 450 is selected for welded pressure vessels, tanks and high-pressure equipment that still name the Japanese intermediate-temperature book at the 450 MPa QT step. QT is used to reach that yield after TMCP SPV410 is no longer enough. It is not automatically an ASME Section VIII plate. If the vessel is ASME, the drawing should name an ASME or ASTM grade such as SA537 Cl.2, SA738 Gr.B or SA517 Gr.B.

It is not QT Ni-Cr-Mo like SA543 Type B Cl.2. It is not Cr-Mo like SA387 Gr.22 Cl.2. Stainless inquiries belong on ASME SA240 or ASTM A240.

SPV450 is killed C-Mn vessel plate at the 450 MPa QT step. Welding is production welding, and Code welding when the equipment is a vessel.

Qualify procedures to the applicable code. For ASME work that happens to use a dual-named plate, use ASME Section IX. Consumables should match the 570–700 MPa tensile band, not a SA387 Gr.12 Cl.2 Cr-Mo procedure and not a higher QT procedure from SA517 Gr.Q. Pcm from JIS G3115 must stay inside the table for QT plate. Preheat follows thickness and hydrogen control. The fabricator owns the WPS. SHH STEEL can share mill heat data for that review.

Usual delivery from SHH STEEL is quenched and tempered JIS G3115 SPV450 / SPV450Q plate. Normalize is allowed by agreement and must be written on the purchase order. As-rolled or TMCP shipment is not the default for this grade.

If the vessel will see PWHT, test coupons shall follow a simulated cycle when the order names it. This is a QT vessel plate, not the TMCP route used on SPV410 and not the carbon normalize route used on SA516 Gr.70. Special heat treatment, extra simulation or third-party hold points add time. Plan about two months when those extras are on the order.

The certificate lists JIS G3115 SPV450 (and SPV450Q if requested); heat number; heat analysis; product analysis when ordered; tensile results to the correct thickness column; QT statement; impact at the named temperature; Pcm when required. Certificates may be EN 10204 3.1 or EN 10204 3.2. Dual marking to SA537 Cl.2 is not automatic.

Usual supply range from SHH STEEL for SPV450 QT vessel plate:

• Thickness: commonly 6 mm – 150 mm. Confirm any request above 150 mm against mill capability
• Width: 1500 mm – 4000 mm
• Length: 3000 mm – 12000 mm
• Cut-to-length plates and nest sizes inside those limits

Ship plate inquiries belong on shipbuilding steel plates or BV Rules. Weathering plate belongs on EN 10025-5 or Corten A/B. TMCP fine-grain structural belongs on EN 10025-4. QT structural belongs on EN 10025-6. Ordinary structural belongs on EN 10025-2 or JIS G3106.

Dimensional limits follow the mill rolling standard named on the order. Do not apply ASTM A36/A36M structural tolerances to a JIS vessel plate without writing them. UT to JIS, EN 10160 or ASTM A435 / A577 / A578 is added when the order names it.

Most export JIS G3115 SPV450 / SPV 450 orders add extras. SHH STEEL does not assume them.

Charpy details. Temperature, energy, location and orientation. JIS default is commonly 0 °C.

Product analysis. Add this when the destination file wants finished-plate chemistry, not only ladle chemistry.

Pcm. Required on QT SPV450.

Simulated PWHT. When the equipment will be stress-relieved.

NDE. UT per the named method.

Z-direction / through-thickness testing. When the drawing names Z15 / Z25 / Z35.

Third-party. EN 10204 3.2, with inspectors arranged for US, Mexican, European, Middle East, Japanese or Korean documentation packages.

ASME SA516 is not SPV450.
