GB/T 713 12Cr1MoVR Steel Plate | 12Cr1MoVR Cr-Mo-V Vessel Plate
What is GB/T 713 12Cr1MoVR Steel?
GB/T 713 12Cr1MoVR, also written GB/T 713.2 12Cr1MoVR, 12Cr1MoV and 12Cr1MoVR steel plate, is a Chinese 1Cr-0.3Mo-V boiler and pressure-vessel plate. Current product rules sit in GB/T 713.2-2023. Buyers still search GB/T 713. The name itself is the search term: about 0.12% C, 1% Cr, Mo, V, and R for vessel. Yield is 245 MPa at 6–60 mm. Tensile is 440–590 MPa. Delivery is normalizing plus tempering. Tempering shall not be lower than 680 °C. Impact is commonly 20 °C, 47 J. SHH STEEL is a global steel mill sourcing partner and steel manufacturer & exporter (mill-direct, China origin) for this grade. Plate is produced to GB/T 713 / GB/T 713.2 and shipped to buyers in the USA, Mexico, South America, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia.
A purchase order that only says “CrMoV vessel plate” is incomplete. Write GB/T 713 12Cr1MoVR. Do not ship 15CrMoR against a 12Cr1MoVR drawing. Do not ship 14Cr1MoR against a 12Cr1MoVR drawing. Do not ship 12Cr2Mo1R against a 12Cr1MoVR drawing. Do not ship 12Cr2Mo1VR against a 12Cr1MoVR drawing. Vanadium is required here. Chromium is near 1%, not 2.25%.
Old pipe and forging drawings still say 12Cr1MoV. That name is the sister chemistry in GB/T 3077 and boiler-pipe books. If the drawing says 12Cr1MoV and the product is plate, confirm whether the buyer accepts 12Cr1MoVR marking or needs both names on the certificate.
This page is not carbon Q245R / Q345R. It is not Mn-Mo-Nb 18MnMoNbR. It is not 2.25Cr-1Mo 12Cr2Mo1R. It is not QT alloy under ASME SA543.
Company scope: global steel mill sourcing partner – SHH STEEL.

Vanadium is required. Molybdenum is lower than on 15CrMoR / 14Cr1MoR. Chromium is near 1%, not 2.25%. That is why this grade is not 12Cr2Mo1R and not 12Cr2Mo1VR. SHH STEEL reports heat analysis on every certificate and product analysis when the order names it.
Mechanical Properties
Yield starts at 245 MPa at 6–60 mm and falls as thickness rises.
Tensile and Yield — GB/T 713 12Cr1MoVR
| Thickness (mm) | Yield min (MPa) | Tensile (MPa) |
|---|---|---|
| 6 – 60 | 245 | 440 – 590 |
| 60 – 100 | 235 | 440 – 590 |
| 100 – 150 | 235 | 430 – 580 |
| Density | 7.85 g/cm³ | 7.85 g/cm³ |
Elongation is commonly 19% min. Impact is 20 °C, 47 J. Elevated-temperature proof stress is the reason many boiler files name this grade. Write the design temperature on the order if the vessel file needs those values.
Do not quote 245 MPa yield on a 120 mm plate without checking the thickness column. Do not treat 440–590 MPa tensile as permission to stamp SA387 Gr.12 Cl.2 or SA387 Gr.11 Cl.2 without checking vanadium, Class, yield, impact and PWHT.

Cr-Mo-V Pressure-Vessel Service
GB/T 713 12Cr1MoVR is selected for boilers, superheater-related shells, heat exchangers and other pressure equipment that name the Chinese 1Cr-0.3Mo-V vessel book. Vanadium supports elevated-temperature strength after N+T. Chromium near 1% and molybdenum near 0.30% keep the alloy below the 2.25Cr-1Mo family.
It is not automatically an ASME Section VIII plate. If the vessel is ASME, the drawing should name an ASME or ASTM grade such as SA387 Gr.12 Cl.2 or SA387 Gr.11 Cl.2, and vanadium must still be accepted by that file.
SHH STEEL supplies this plate to fabricators in the United States, Mexico, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. It is not nickel low-temp plate like SA203 Gr.D. It is not QT Ni-Cr-Mo like SA543 Type B Cl.1. It is not 2.25Cr-1Mo like SA387 Gr.22 Cl.2. Stainless inquiries belong on ASME SA240 or ASTM A240.
Weldability
12Cr1MoVR is killed 1Cr-0.3Mo-V vessel plate. Welding is production welding, and Code welding when the equipment is a vessel.
Qualify procedures to the applicable code. For ASME work that happens to use a dual-named plate, use ASME Section IX. Consumables should match the Cr-Mo-V content, not a plain Q345R procedure, not a 15CrMoR-only procedure, and not a SA387 Gr.22 Cl.2 2.25Cr-1Mo procedure. Preheat and PWHT follow thickness and hydrogen control. The fabricator owns the WPS. SHH STEEL can share mill heat data for that review.
Hydrogen service, HIC and NACE extras are not automatic. Write them if the equipment file needs them.
Heat Treatment and Delivery Condition
Usual delivery from SHH STEEL is normalized-and-tempered GB/T 713 12Cr1MoVR. Tempering shall not be lower than 680 °C. That is the same temper floor used on 12Cr2Mo1R, not the 650 °C floor used on 15CrMoR / 14Cr1MoR. As-rolled shipment is not the default.
If the vessel will see PWHT, test coupons shall follow a simulated cycle when the order names it. Special heat treatment, extra simulation or third-party hold points add time. Plan about two months when those extras are on the order.
The certificate lists GB/T 713 12Cr1MoVR; heat number; heat analysis; product analysis when ordered; tensile results to the correct thickness column; N+T and tempering temperature; impact at 20 °C or the named temperature; elevated-temperature proof stress when ordered. Certificates may be EN 10204 3.1 or EN 10204 3.2. Dual marking to SA387 Gr.12 Cl.2 is available only when both books are met and vanadium is accepted.
Dimensions
Usual supply range from SHH STEEL for 12Cr1MoVR Cr-Mo-V vessel plate:
- Thickness: commonly 6 mm – 150 mm. Confirm any request above 150 mm against mill capability
- Width: 1500 mm – 4000 mm
- Length: 3000 mm – 12000 mm
- Cut-to-length plates and nest sizes inside those limits
Ship plate inquiries belong on shipbuilding steel plates or BV Rules. Weathering plate belongs on EN 10025-5 or Corten A/B. TMCP fine-grain structural belongs on EN 10025-4. QT structural belongs on EN 10025-6. Ordinary structural belongs on EN 10025-2 or JIS G3106.
Tolerances
Dimensional limits follow GB/T 713.1 and the mill rolling standard named on the order. Do not apply ASTM A36/A36M structural tolerances to a Chinese vessel plate without writing them. UT to GB/T 2970, JB/T 4730, EN 10160 or ASTM A435 / A577 / A578 is added when the order names it.
Thickness tolerance, flatness and camber must be written if the destination file is tighter than the GB default. Edge condition, mill edge or cut edge, also belongs on the order.
Supplementary Requirements
Most export GB/T 713 12Cr1MoVR orders add extras. SHH STEEL does not assume them.
Charpy details. Temperature, energy, location and orientation. GB default is commonly 20 °C / 47 J.
Product analysis. Add this when the destination file wants finished-plate chemistry.
Elevated-temperature proof stress. Design temperature as written. This is a frequent extra on 12Cr1MoVR boiler files.
Simulated PWHT. When the equipment will be stress-relieved.
NDE. UT per the named method.
Z-direction. Z15 / Z25 / Z35 when the drawing names it.
HIC / NACE / SSC / hydrogen service. Only when written.
Third-party. EN 10204 3.2, with inspectors arranged for US, Mexican, European, Middle East, Japanese or Korean documentation packages.
