EN 10028-5 P355M Steel Plate | P355M TMCP Vessel Plate supplier
What is EN 10028-5 P355M Steel Plate?
P355M is the room-temperature TMCP grade in the P355 family of EN 10028-5. Buyers search EN 10028-5 P355M, P355M steel plate, 1.8821, P355M TMCP vessel plate and P355M supplier. The letter M means thermomechanically rolled fine-grain plate. This page is not P355ML1. ML1 is −40 °C. This page is not P355ML2. ML2 is −50 °C. This page is not P355N or P355NH. Those grades are EN 10028-3 normalized plate. This page is not EN 10028-2 P355GH. This page is not S355M. S355M is EN 10025-4 structural steel.
Yield is 355 MPa at ≤16 mm. Tensile is 450–610 MPa. Steel number is 1.8821. Delivery is TMCP (M), not +N. SHH STEEL is a global steel mill sourcing partner and steel manufacturer & exporter (mill-direct, China origin). We buy this grade from qualified Chinese mills, check the certificate against EN 10028-5, and ship it to fabricators in the USA, Europe, Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa and South America.
If a drawing says P355ML1, we will not ship P355M and call 355 enough. If a drawing says P355N, we will not ship P355M and call fine grain the same route. Dual marking with Q345R steel plate is possible only when both books are fully met.

This plate sits in pressure vessel steel plates and carbon steel plates. Normalized fine-grain sisters belong on EN 10028-3. High-temperature carbon belongs on EN 10028-2. Structural TMCP belongs on EN 10025-4.
Chemical Composition
Cast analysis follows EN 10028-5. Product analysis follows EN 10028-1 when ordered. People who search P355M chemical composition and 1.8821 chemistry want a TMCP fine-grain analysis, not a P355GH table copied across.

Carbon stays lower than on many normalized 355 grades because TMCP uses controlled rolling, not only chemistry, to reach 355 MPa. SHH STEEL prints heat analysis on every certificate and product analysis when ordered. Density is 7.85 g/cm³.
Mechanical Properties
Buyers search P355M mechanical properties, P355M yield strength and P355M TMCP. Yield still falls with thickness. Use the thickness column on the mill certificate.
Tensile and Yield — EN 10028-5 P355M
| Thickness (mm) | Yield min (MPa) | Tensile (MPa) |
|---|---|---|
| ≤ 16 | 355 | 450 – 610 |
| 16 – 40 | 355 | 450 – 610 |
| 40 – 63 | 345 | 440 – 600 |
| 63 – 80 | 325 | 430 – 590 |
| 80 – 100 | 315 | 420 – 580 |
| Density | 7.85 g/cm³ | 7.85 g/cm³ |
Elongation is typically 22% min on thinner plate. Room-temperature quality M does not automatically include −40 °C Charpy. If the file needs −40 °C, the grade name is P355ML1, not P355M. If the file needs −50 °C, the grade name is P355ML2.
Do not quote 355 MPa yield on an 80 mm plate. Do not treat 450–610 MPa tensile as permission to stamp Q345R steel plate or SA516 Grade 70 without checking both books.

TMCP Pressure-Vessel Service
Buyers pick P355M when a PED file wants 355 MPa TMCP plate and does not name ML impact. Search phrases such as P355M TMCP, P355M boiler plate and 1.8821 steel plate all point here.
It is not a substitute for 16MnDR steel plate. That grade is −40 °C. It is not a substitute for SA841 Grade A Class 1 unless both books are met. An ASME TMCP file should name SA-841. Dual marking is possible only when chemistry, tensile, impact and delivery all fit.
SHH STEEL supplies this plate to fabricators in the United States, Mexico, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
Weldability
P355M is killed TMCP fine-grain C-Mn vessel plate. Treat welding as production welding, and as PED / ASME Code welding when the equipment is a vessel.
Qualify to the applicable code. Consumables must match the P355M tensile band. A procedure written for SA516 Grade 70 is a comparison only. A Cr-Mo procedure written for SA387 Grade 12 Class 1 is the wrong family. Heat input on TMCP plate should stay controlled so the rolled grain is not coarsened in the HAZ. The fabricator owns the WPS. SHH STEEL can share mill heat data for that review.
Heat Treatment and Delivery Condition
Usual delivery from SHH STEEL is thermomechanically rolled EN 10028-5 P355M (M). This is not +N from EN 10028-3 and not QT from EN 10025-6.
If the vessel will see PWHT, say so. TMCP properties can move after a long stress-relief cycle. Simulated PWHT on test coupons is worth naming. Extra simulation, 3.2 hold points or special NDE add time. Plan about two months when those extras are on the order.
The certificate lists EN 10028-5 P355M; 1.8821; heat number; cast analysis; product analysis when ordered; tensile to the correct thickness column; M / TMCP; impact only when ordered. Certificates may be EN 10204 3.1 or EN 10204 3.2.
Dimensions
Usual supply range from SHH STEEL for P355M TMCP vessel plate:
- Thickness: commonly 6 mm – 80 mm, thicker by mill agreement
- Width: 1500 mm – 4000 mm
- Length: 3000 mm – 12000 mm
Normalized fine-grain plate belongs on EN 10028-3. Structural TMCP belongs on EN 10025-4.
Tolerances
Dimensional limits follow EN 10028-1 and EN 10029 unless the order names another table. Class A is the usual default. If the calculation used minimum thickness after corrosion, write the allowed minus. Do not apply ASTM A36 structural tolerances to a PED TMCP vessel plate without writing them. When dual-named against SA841 Grade A Class 1, write which thickness table governs.
Supplementary Requirements
Charpy details. P355M does not assume −40 °C. Write temperature and orientation if impact is required.
Product analysis. Add this when the destination file wants finished-plate chemistry.
Simulated PWHT. When the equipment will be stress-relieved.
NDE. EN 10160 or the named UT class.
Third-party. EN 10204 3.2 when written.
Applications
| Industry | Typical components |
|---|---|
| PED boilers and drums | EN 10028-5 P355M shells |
| TMCP heat-exchanger shells | P355M courses |
| Room-temp TMCP vessels | P355M plate from SHH STEEL |
| Dual-certified export | P355M / SA841 Grade A Class 1 when both books fit |
P355M is the plate for a file that wants 355 MPa TMCP steel and does not name ML impact. It is the wrong plate for a winter tank at −40 °C. That work is P355ML1. It is the wrong plate for a normalized EN 10028-3 file. That work is P355N or P355NH.

Why Choose SHH STEEL
Experience on this grade is simple: keep the letter after P355. M, ML1 and ML2 are three different purchase orders, and none of them is P355N. SHH STEEL as a global steel mill sourcing partner and steel manufacturer & exporter (mill-direct, China origin) prices P355M from first-line mills, reports 1.8821 chemistry, records TMCP, and issues 3.1 as standard or 3.2 when specified.
We keep the grade on the order. P355M is not P355ML1. P355M is not P355N. P355M is not EN 10028-2 P355GH. P355M is not Q345R steel plate. If the drawing says P355ML2, we will not ship P355M and call TMCP close.
