EN 10028-6 P355Q Steel Plate | P355Q QT Vessel Plate supplier
What is EN 10028-6 P355Q Steel ?
P355Q is the room-temperature quenched-and-tempered grade in the P355 family of EN 10028-6. Buyers search EN 10028-6 P355Q, P355Q steel plate, 1.8866, P355Q QT vessel plate and P355Q supplier. The letter Q means quenched and tempered fine-grain plate. This page is not P355QH. QH is the elevated-temperature quality. This page is not P355QL1. QL1 is −40 °C. This page is not P355QL2. QL2 is −60 °C. This page is not EN 10028-5 P355M. M is TMCP. This page is not EN 10028-3 P355NH. NH is normalized. This page is not S690Q. S690Q is EN 10025-6 structural QT steel.
Yield is 355 MPa at ≤50 mm. Tensile is 490–630 MPa. Steel number is 1.8866. Delivery is QT (Q), not +N and not M. SHH STEEL is a global steel mill sourcing partner and steel manufacturer & exporter (mill-direct, China origin). We buy this grade from qualified Chinese mills, check the certificate against EN 10028-6, and ship it to fabricators in the USA, Europe, Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa and South America.
If a drawing says P355QL1, we will not ship P355Q and call 355 enough. If a drawing says P355M, we will not ship P355Q and call fine grain the same route. Dual marking with Q345R steel plate is possible only when both books are fully met.

355 MPa after QT comes from quench and temper plus a fine-grain melt, not from a high-carbon analysis. SHH STEEL prints heat analysis on every certificate and product analysis when ordered. Density is 7.85 g/cm³.
Mechanical Properties
Buyers search P355Q mechanical properties, P355Q yield strength and P355Q QT. Yield still falls with thickness.
Tensile and Yield — EN 10028-6 P355Q
| Thickness (mm) | Yield min (MPa) | Tensile (MPa) |
|---|---|---|
| ≤ 50 | 355 | 490 – 630 |
| 50 – 100 | 335 | 490 – 630 |
| 100 – 150 | 315 | 470 – 610 |
| Density | 7.85 g/cm³ | 7.85 g/cm³ |
Elongation is typically 22% min on thinner plate. Room-temperature quality Q does not automatically include −40 °C Charpy. If the file needs −40 °C, the grade name is P355QL1. If the file needs −60 °C, the grade name is P355QL2. If the file needs elevated-temperature proof strength, the grade name is P355QH.
Do not quote 355 MPa yield on a 120 mm plate. Do not treat 490–630 MPa tensile as permission to stamp Q345R steel plate or SA516 Grade 70 without checking both books.

QT Pressure-Vessel Service
Buyers pick P355Q when a PED file wants 355 MPa quenched-and-tempered plate and does not name QL impact or QH elevated-temperature proof. Search phrases such as P355Q QT, P355Q boiler plate and 1.8866 steel plate all point here.
It is not a substitute for EN 10028-5 P355ML1. That grade is TMCP −40 °C. It is not a substitute for SA517 Grade Q. That grade is a much higher QT class. An ASME QT file should name SA-517. Dual marking is possible only when chemistry, tensile, impact and delivery all fit.
SHH STEEL supplies this plate to fabricators in the United States, Mexico, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
Weldability
P355Q is killed QT fine-grain C-Mn vessel plate. Treat welding as production welding, and as PED / ASME Code welding when the equipment is a vessel.
Qualify to the applicable code. Consumables must match the P355Q tensile band. A procedure written for SA516 Grade 70 is a comparison only. A TMCP procedure written for EN 10028-5 P355M is a different heat-affected-zone story. A Cr-Mo procedure written for SA387 Grade 12 Class 1 is the wrong family. Preheat and interpass must stay inside the qualified window so the QT structure is not damaged. The fabricator owns the WPS. SHH STEEL can share mill heat data for that review.
Heat Treatment and Delivery Condition
Usual delivery from SHH STEEL is quenched and tempered EN 10028-6 P355Q (Q). This is not +N from EN 10028-3 and not M from EN 10028-5.
If the vessel will see PWHT, say so. QT properties can move after a long stress-relief cycle. Simulated PWHT on test coupons is worth naming. Extra simulation, 3.2 hold points or special NDE add time. Plan about two months when those extras are on the order.
The certificate lists EN 10028-6 P355Q; 1.8866; heat number; cast analysis; product analysis when ordered; tensile to the correct thickness column; Q / QT; impact only when ordered. Certificates may be EN 10204 3.1 or EN 10204 3.2.
Usual supply range from SHH STEEL for P355Q QT vessel plate:
- Thickness: commonly 8 mm – 150 mm, thicker by mill agreement
- Width: 1500 mm – 4000 mm
- Length: 3000 mm – 12000 mm
TMCP 355 plate belongs on EN 10028-5 P355M. Structural QT belongs on EN 10025-6.
Tolerances
Dimensional limits for EN 10028-6 P355Q follow EN 10028-1 and EN 10029 unless the purchase order names another table. Class A is the usual mill default for P355Q QT vessel plate. Class B, Class C or Class D is supplied only when written. Do not apply ASTM A36 structural tolerances to a PED QT vessel plate without writing them. When dual-named against SA517 Grade B, write whether EN 10029 or SA-20 governs the minus on thickness.
Typical thickness tolerance idea for P355Q (EN 10029 Class A, reference)
| Nominal thickness (mm) | Class A minus (mm) | Class A plus (mm) |
|---|---|---|
| 8 – 15 | −0.5 | +0.9 |
| 15 – 25 | −0.6 | +1.0 |
| 25 – 40 | −0.7 | +1.1 |
| 40 – 80 | −0.8 | +1.2 |
| 80 – 150 | −1.0 | +1.4 |
Width on 1500–4000 mm plate is commonly held to about ±20–25 mm unless the mill quote names a tighter extra. Length on 3000–12000 mm plate is commonly held to about +50 / 0 mm or ±25 mm by mill practice. Flatness follows EN 10029 Class N unless Class S is written. Edge condition is mill edge or cut edge as ordered. If the vessel calculation used minimum thickness after corrosion, write the allowed minus on the RFQ. SHH STEEL will not assume Class B or a zero-minus extra on P355Q unless the order says so.
Supplementary Requirements
Charpy details. P355Q does not assume −40 °C. Write temperature and orientation if impact is required.
Product analysis. Add this when the destination file wants finished-plate chemistry.
Simulated PWHT. When the equipment will be stress-relieved.
NDE. EN 10160 or the named UT class.
Third-party. EN 10204 3.2 when written.
Applications
| Industry | Typical components |
|---|---|
| PED QT drums and shells | EN 10028-6 P355Q courses |
| Heat-treated vessel heads | P355Q plate from SHH STEEL |
| Dual-certified export | P355Q / SA537 Class 1 when both books fit |
| Comparison vs TMCP / N | P355Q next to EN 10028-5 P355M |
P355Q is the plate for a file that wants 355 MPa QT steel and does not name QL impact. It is the wrong plate for a winter tank at −40 °C. That work is P355QL1. It is the wrong plate for a TMCP file. That work is EN 10028-5 P355M.

Why Choose SHH STEEL
Experience on this grade is simple: keep the letter after P355. Q, QH, QL1 and QL2 are four different purchase orders, and none of them is P355M or P355NH. SHH STEEL as a global steel mill sourcing partner and steel manufacturer & exporter (mill-direct, China origin) prices P355Q from first-line mills, reports 1.8866 chemistry, records QT, and issues 3.1 as standard or 3.2 when specified.
We keep the grade on the order. P355Q is not EN 10028-5 P355M. P355Q is not P355QL1. P355Q is not EN 10028-2 P355GH. P355Q is not Q345R steel plate. If the drawing says P355QL2, we will not ship P355Q and call QT close.
