ASTM A514 Grade C Steel Plate | A514 Gr.C 100ksi QT Structural Plate supplier

ASTM A514 Grade C, also searched as A514 Gr.C, A514GRC, A514-C, A514C and 100 ksi QT plate, is a historical grade from earlier editions of ASTM A514/A514M. Older tables listed Grade C with a maximum thickness of 1¼ in / 32 mm. Current A514/A514M-18 / -22 Table 1 lists only A, B, E, F, H, P, Q and S. Grade C is not on that current table.

A purchase order that still writes Grade C is usually an old drawing. SHH STEEL will not silently recertify it as Grade B or Grade S. We confirm whether the file needs the historical Mn-Mo-B chemistry or a current sister grade.

There is no ASME SA-514. Code quenched-and-tempered vessel plate is ASTM A517 Grade B only if that vessel book still names Grade B for the Code year. Do not treat A514 Grade C as A517. ASTM A517 does not have grade C.

This page is not current Grade B. Grade B is still in Table 1 and uses Cr-Mo-V-Ti. This page is not current Grade S. Grade S is still in Table 1 and goes to 65 mm. This page is not A572 Gr.50. This page is not EN 10025-6 S690QL. This page is not GB/T 16270 Q690E.

On the old table, yield to 32 mm is 100 ksi / 690 MPa min and tensile is 110–130 ksi / 760–895 MPa. Delivery is quenched and tempered. General requirements follow A6 / SA-6.

Old-table Grade C is a high-manganese Mo-B grade with no nickel and no chromium. Values below follow earlier A514 chemistry tables. Current Table 1 does not reprint this column.

Heat Analysis and Product Analysis — historical ASTM A514 Grade C

Current Grade B uses 0.70–1.00% Mn plus Cr-V-Ti. Current Grade S uses 1.10–1.50% Mn plus Nb and goes to 65 mm. Do not stamp Grade C chemistry as Grade B unless the purchase order allows the swap. If product analysis is ordered, SHH STEEL prints both columns. Density is 7.85 g/cm³.

Tensile, Yield and Hardness — historical ASTM A514 Grade C

The old table did not give Grade C a 65–150 mm row. An 80 mm inquiry named Grade C cannot be certified as historical Grade C.

Historical Grade C has no official current twin.

In the United States the current official names are A, B, E, F, H, P, Q and S. Grade C is a search name from earlier books. ASTM A517 vessel grades are not A514.

In China compare GB/T 16270 Q690D / Q690E. GB/T 1591 Q690E is a different book. Neither copies historical Grade C chemistry.

Buyers pick A514 Gr.C when an old boom, trailer or mining drawing still prints Grade C. Search phrases such as A514GRC, A514 Grade C and A514-C all point here.

SHH STEEL will ask two questions before rolling: does the file need the historical Mn-Mo-B heat, or can it move to current Grade B or Grade S? We will not invent a current Table 1 stamp that says Grade C.

Treat historical Grade C as 100 ksi QT production welding. Qualify to the structural code on the job. A WPS written for current Grade B is not automatically Grade C. The fabricator owns the WPS. SHH STEEL can share mill heat data.

Usual delivery from SHH STEEL is quenched and tempered. As-rolled plate cannot be A514 Grade C.

The certificate lists ASTM A514 Grade C as a historical grade when that is what the order writes; heat number; heat analysis and product analysis when ordered; tensile to the 32 mm table; QT delivery. Certificates may be EN 10204 3.1 or EN 10204 3.2. The quote will also state that current Table 1 does not list Grade C.

Write the book year if the file depends on an old A514 edition. Write product analysis if the second chemistry column is needed. Write Charpy, Z-test, UT and 3.2 as required. Stamp heat number, A514 Grade C and thickness.
