GB/T 4237 06Cr13Al S11348 Stainless Steel Plate Supplier
What is GB/T 4237 06Cr13Al (S11348) stainless steel plate?
06Cr13Al is 405 (EN 1.4002): 11.5–14.5% Cr with 0.10–0.30% aluminium. Aluminium keeps the steel ferritic so it does not harden when cooled from welding, which is why it is used for cladding and lining in refinery vessels.
How to read the name: under GB/T 20878 the leading ’06’ is the carbon code (here C ≤0.08%), then Cr13 = about 13% chromium; Al = aluminium added. S11348 is the unified numeric code (ISC) used in GB/T 4237-2015. Older drawings and Chinese buyers may still write the pre-2007 name 0Cr13Al.
SHH STEEL produces and exports ferritic stainless plate from China, works as a sales agent for leading stainless mills, and runs its own processing warehouse for cutting and surface finishing. 06Cr13Al is part of our GB/T 4237 stainless plate range; for comparison, see our AISI 405 page.

06Cr13Al chemical composition (heat analysis)
| Element | 06Cr13Al heat analysis, % (Table 17) | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| C | ≤ 0.08 | Carbon. Low values protect welds from carbide precipitation; higher values add hot strength or hardenability. |
| Si | ≤ 1.00 | Silicon. Deoxidizer; in heat-resistant grades it builds a protective scale. |
| Mn | ≤ 1.00 | Manganese. Deoxidizer; in Mn-bearing grades it replaces nickel and keeps nitrogen in solution. |
| P | ≤ 0.040 | Phosphorus. Impurity, kept low for toughness and weld cracking resistance. |
| S | ≤ 0.030 | Sulfur. Impurity; low sulfur improves pitting resistance, hot workability and polishability. |
| Cr | 11.50 – 14.50 | Chromium. Forms the passive film; the main driver of corrosion and oxidation resistance. |
| Ni | ≤ 0.60 | Nickel. Stabilizes austenite, improves toughness and resistance to reducing acids. |
| Al | 0.10 – 0.30 | Aluminium. Ferrite former; in PH grades it forms the NiAl hardening phase. |
| PREN (Cr + 3.3Mo + 16N) | 11.5 – 13.0 (minimum – mid-range) | Calculated from the limits above, not a requirement of GB/T 4237 |
Values are maximum unless a range is given. The mill reports the ladle (heat) analysis on the certificate; this is the figure to compare with Table 17.
Check analysis of 06Cr13Al plate
A check analysis drilled from the finished plate may differ slightly from the heat analysis. GB/T 4237 refers to GB/T 222 for the permitted deviations; the table applies them to the 06Cr13Al limits. Deviations apply to one side of a range only, never to both sides in the same heat.
| Element | Heat analysis limit (%) | Permitted deviation | Product analysis limit (%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| C | ≤ 0.08 | ±0.01 | ≤ 0.09 |
| Si | ≤ 1.00 | ±0.05 | ≤ 1.05 |
| Mn | ≤ 1.00 | ±0.03 | ≤ 1.03 |
| P | ≤ 0.040 | +0.005 | ≤ 0.045 |
| S | ≤ 0.030 | +0.005 | ≤ 0.035 |
| Cr | 11.50 – 14.50 | ±0.15 | 11.35 – 14.65 |
| Ni | ≤ 0.60 | ±0.03 | ≤ 0.63 |
| Al | 0.10 – 0.30 | −0.005 / +0.01 (min) / ±0.05 (max) | 0.095 – 0.35 |
Where the table says ‘by agreement’, the deviation is not tabulated for that content level and should be agreed in the contract, usually by reference to ASTM A480 Table A1.1.

Ferritic grades are tested in the annealed condition; the bend test is part of acceptance.
What to expect from ferritic stainless plate
06Cr13Al is ferritic: it is magnetic, has lower thermal expansion and better thermal conductivity than austenitic steel, and is immune to chloride stress corrosion cracking. Those properties make it a good choice for heat exchangers, hot water tanks and exhaust parts.
The trade-off is toughness. Ferritic stainless has a ductile-brittle transition, and it moves to higher temperature with thickness and grain size. This is why ferritic plate is mostly thin; for sections above about 6 mm ask for Charpy data or bend in a warm shop.
Ferritic grades contain little or no nickel, so their price is far more stable than GB/T 4237 06Cr19Ni10 S30408 (304).
06Cr13Al equivalent grades: ASTM, EN, JIS
| Standard system | Equivalent / closest grade |
|---|---|
| China GB/T 4237-2015 | 06Cr13Al (S11348) |
| Former Chinese name | 0Cr13Al |
| ASTM A240/A240M | Type 405 / S40500 |
| EN 10088-2 | X6CrAl13 / 1.4002 |
| JIS G4304 (hot rolled) | SUS405 |
| Common name | 405 |
Equivalent grades are close in chemistry and properties but are never identical: limits on carbon, nitrogen and residual elements differ. For dual or multiple certification the heat must meet every standard named on the order, and we confirm that from the heat chemistry before quotation.

How 06Cr13Al performs in corrosive service
11–13% chromium ferritics resist mild atmospheres, exhaust condensates and wet abrasion far better than carbon steel, but they will show surface rust in humid or salty air.
PREN of 06Cr13Al from the GB/T 4237 limits: 11.5 – 13.0. PREN is a ranking tool for pitting in chlorides, not a guarantee; temperature, crevices, deposits and weld finish matter as much.
Intergranular corrosion testing of ferritic and martensitic plate is by agreement (GB/T 4334 or ASTM A763 practices).
Fabrication guidance
Weld 11–13% Cr ferritics with low heat input. Fillers: ER409Nb for matching welds, ER309L when a tougher austenitic weld is acceptable.
Grain growth in the HAZ is the main risk; keep interpass low and avoid multiple re-heating of the same zone. Preheat is normally not needed below 6 mm.
Cutting: we cut 06Cr13Al by plasma (up to about 150 mm), laser (thin plate) or waterjet, and remove the heat-affected edge by machining where the drawing requires it.
Heat treatment and delivery condition
Recommended heat treatment for 06Cr13Al (GB/T 4237-2015 Annex C): 780 – 830 °C, rapid or slow cooling.
Ferritic grades are annealed, not solution treated, and do not harden on cooling in the normal range.
06Cr13Al compared with related grades
The table compares 06Cr13Al with the grades buyers most often weigh it against. Strength values are GB/T 4237-2015 minimums; PREN is calculated from the minimum chemistry.
| Grade (GB/T 4237) | Key chemistry, % | PREN min | Rp0.2 min, MPa | Rm min, MPa |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 06Cr13Al S11348 | C ≤ 0.08, Cr 11.50 – 14.50, Ni ≤ 0.60 | 11.5 | 170 | 415 |
| GB/T 4237 06Cr13 S41008 | C ≤ 0.08, Cr 11.50 – 13.50, Ni ≤ 0.60 | 11.5 | 205 | 415 |
| GB/T 4237 022Cr12 S11203 | C ≤ 0.030, Cr 11.00 – 13.50, Ni ≤ 0.60 | 11.0 | 195 | 360 |
| GB/T 4237 12Cr13 S41010 | C ≤ 0.15, Cr 11.50 – 13.50, Ni ≤ 0.60 | 11.5 | 205 | 450 |
Proof strength is modest (170 MPa). For clad plate, the cladding is usually ordered under a clad-plate standard with 405 as the cladding material.

Mill sourcing and lead time
06Cr13Al is a mainstream grade at Chinese stainless mills. We supply it from our own stock and processing warehouse, and by mill order from major producers such as TISCO and Baosteel Stainless, for which we act as a sales agent. Stock plate ships in about 1–2 weeks after cutting; mill orders typically take 30–60 days depending on thickness and rolling schedule.
Every plate is traceable to its heat number, and copies of the mill certificates stay on file for repeat orders and audits. The same mills also supply our ASTM A240, ASME SA240, JIS G4305 and AISI plate ranges, so mixed-standard orders can ship together.

SHH STEEL has exported stainless and carbon steel plate to buyers in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and the Americas.
FAQ
- Why does 06Cr13Al contain aluminium?
- Aluminium (0.10–0.30%) in 06Cr13Al (S11348, 405) stabilizes ferrite, so the steel does not form martensite and harden after welding or rapid cooling. That makes it suitable for welded linings in refinery vessels.
- What is the chemical composition of 06Cr13Al?
- Under GB/T 4237-2015 Table 17, 06Cr13Al (S11348) has C ≤ 0.08, Cr 11.50 – 14.50, Ni ≤ 0.60. Phosphorus is limited to ≤0.040% and sulfur to ≤0.030%.
- What is the ASTM equivalent of 06Cr13Al?
- The closest equivalents of 06Cr13Al (S11348) are Type 405 / S40500 in ASTM, X6CrAl13 / 1.4002 in EN, SUS405 in JIS (common name: 405). Chemistry limits differ slightly, so dual certification depends on the actual heat.
- What are the mechanical properties of 06Cr13Al plate?
- GB/T 4237-2015 Table 22 requires for 06Cr13Al: proof strength Rp0.2 ≥170 MPa, tensile strength ≥415 MPa and elongation ≥20%, hardness ≤179 HBW. Values apply to plate in the delivery heat-treated condition.
- Is 06Cr13Al stainless steel magnetic?
- Yes. 06Cr13Al is ferritic and is magnetic in all conditions.
- What thickness of 06Cr13Al plate can you supply?
- Under GB/T 4237 we supply 06Cr13Al hot-rolled plate in 2 – 12 mm, widths up to 2 000 mm (wider by mill order), cut to size in our warehouse. Thinner material is cold-rolled sheet to GB/T 3280.
Conclusion
GB/T 4237 06Cr13Al (S11348) is a 11–13% chromium ferritic plate grade, known internationally as 405. It is defined by Table 17 chemistry (C ≤ 0.08, Cr 11.50 – 14.50, Ni ≤ 0.60) and Table 22 properties of at least 170 MPa proof strength and 415 MPa tensile strength. Typical uses include clad layers and linings for refinery pressure vessels, steam turbine parts and heat exchanger baffles and tubes. Proof strength is modest (170 MPa).
