GB/T 4237 07Cr19Ni11Ti: what it is and who uses it

07Cr19Ni11Ti is 321H: carbon 0.04–0.10% and Ti 4 × (C + N) to 0.70% for elevated-temperature strength. Annex B points it at the boiler industry.

Reading the designation: ’07’ gives the carbon level (C 0.04–0.10% in GB/T 4237), followed by Cr19 = about 19% chromium; Ni11 = about 11% nickel; Ti = titanium added. S32169 is the unified numeric code (ISC) used in GB/T 4237-2015. Older drawings and Chinese buyers may still write the pre-2007 name 1Cr18Ni11Ti.

SHH STEEL produces and exports austenitic stainless plate from China, works as a sales agent for leading stainless mills, and runs its own processing warehouse for cutting and surface finishing. 07Cr19Ni11Ti is part of our GB/T 4237 stainless plate range; for comparison, see our AISI 321H page.

Chemical composition of 07Cr19Ni11Ti S32169

Element07Cr19Ni11Ti heat analysis, % (Table 15)Why it matters
C0.04 – 0.10Carbon. Low values protect welds from carbide precipitation; higher values add hot strength or hardenability.
Si≤ 0.75Silicon. Deoxidizer; in heat-resistant grades it builds a protective scale.
Mn≤ 2.00Manganese. Deoxidizer; in Mn-bearing grades it replaces nickel and keeps nitrogen in solution.
P≤ 0.045Phosphorus. Impurity, kept low for toughness and weld cracking resistance.
S≤ 0.030Sulfur. Impurity; low sulfur improves pitting resistance, hot workability and polishability.
Cr17.00 – 19.00Chromium. Forms the passive film; the main driver of corrosion and oxidation resistance.
Ni9.00 – 12.00Nickel. Stabilizes austenite, improves toughness and resistance to reducing acids.
OtherTi: 4 × (C+N) – 0.70Stabilizing / special-element requirement of the standard
PREN (Cr + 3.3Mo + 16N)17.0 – 18.0 (minimum – mid-range)Calculated from the limits above, not a requirement of GB/T 4237

Values are maximum unless a range is given. The mill reports the ladle (heat) analysis on the certificate; this is the figure to compare with Table 15.

Product (check) analysis tolerances

A check analysis drilled from the finished plate may differ slightly from the heat analysis. GB/T 4237 refers to GB/T 222 for the permitted deviations; the table applies them to the 07Cr19Ni11Ti limits. Deviations apply to one side of a range only, never to both sides in the same heat.

ElementHeat analysis limit (%)Permitted deviationProduct analysis limit (%)
C0.04 – 0.10±0.010.030 – 0.11
Si≤ 0.75±0.05≤ 0.80
Mn≤ 2.00±0.04≤ 2.04
P≤ 0.045+0.010≤ 0.055
S≤ 0.030+0.005≤ 0.035

Ni9.00 – 12.00±0.10 (min) / ±0.15 (max)8.90 – 12.15

Where the table says ‘by agreement’, the deviation is not tabulated for that content level and should be agreed in the contract, usually by reference to ASTM A480 Table A1.1.

How titanium or niobium stabilization works

In 07Cr19Ni11Ti the stabilizing element forms carbides that are more stable than chromium carbide, so chromium stays in solution even when the steel passes through 450–850 °C. The standard sets the minimum ratio: Ti: 4 × (C+N) – 0.70.

The ratio works only if carbon and nitrogen are measured and titanium or niobium is high enough. Check the certificate: for a 0.05% C heat, Ti ≥5×C means Ti ≥0.25%; many buyers ask for a margin above the minimum.

Compared with the low-carbon route (GB/T 4237 022Cr19Ni10 S30403 and GB/T 4237 022Cr17Ni12Mo2 S31603), stabilized grades keep more strength above 500 °C, which is why boiler and refinery designers still use them.

07Cr19Ni11Ti S32169 tensile and hardness requirements

Property07Cr19Ni11Ti (Table 20)
Proof strength Rp0.2, MPa≥ 205
Tensile strength Rm, MPa≥ 515
Elongation A, %≥ 40
Hardness HBW≤ 217
Hardness HRB≤ 95
Hardness HV≤ 220

Values apply to plate in the delivery heat-treated condition, tested transversely per GB/T 228.1. Hardness is checked by one method chosen by the mill.

How 07Cr19Ni11Ti plate is heat treated

Recommended heat treatment for 07Cr19Ni11Ti (GB/T 4237-2015 Annex C): ≥ 1 095 °C, water quench or other rapid cooling.

A stabilizing anneal at about 870–900 °C after welding can be added for parts that will see 450–850 °C service.

Corrosion resistance and PREN of 07Cr19Ni11Ti

Stabilized grades are bought for intergranular corrosion resistance after welding or after service in the 450–850 °C sensitization range. General corrosion resistance is similar to 304 (or 316 for Mo grades).

PREN of 07Cr19Ni11Ti from the GB/T 4237 limits: 17.0 – 18.0. PREN is a ranking tool for pitting in chlorides, not a guarantee; temperature, crevices, deposits and weld finish matter as much.

Intergranular corrosion testing is not compulsory for this grade in GB/T 4237-2015; when required, the method (GB/T 4334, ASTM A262 or A923 for duplex) and acceptance are agreed in the order.

Cutting, forming and welding 07Cr19Ni11Ti plate

Weld stabilized grades with Nb-stabilized filler (ER347 / E347) — titanium does not transfer well across the arc, so ER321 is rarely used. For 316Ti use ER318 or ER316L.

Knife-line attack can occur in a narrow band next to the fusion line if the part sees 450–850 °C service after welding. If that is the case, ask for a stabilizing anneal (around 870–900 °C) in the procedure.

Cutting: we cut 07Cr19Ni11Ti by plasma (up to about 150 mm), laser (thin plate) or waterjet, and remove the heat-affected edge by machining where the drawing requires it.

Applications of 07Cr19Ni11Ti plate

Where the stabilized chemistry pays off:

  • Boiler superheaters and reheaters
  • Refinery heater tubesheets
  • High-temperature pressure parts
  • Furnace internals under load

Buyers specifying 07Cr19Ni11Ti for these jobs often compare it with GB/T 4237 06Cr18Ni11Ti S32168 and GB/T 4237 07Cr19Ni10 S30409; the comparison table on this page shows the differences.

International grade pages for the alternatives mentioned above: ASTM A240 Type 321, ASTM A240 Type 347H, ASTM A240 Type 304H.

Mill sourcing and lead time

07Cr19Ni11Ti is a mainstream grade at Chinese stainless mills. We supply it from our own stock and processing warehouse, and by mill order from major producers such as TISCO and Baosteel Stainless, for which we act as a sales agent. Stock plate ships in about 1–2 weeks after cutting; mill orders typically take 30–60 days depending on thickness and rolling schedule.

Every plate is traceable to its heat number, and copies of the mill certificates stay on file for repeat orders and audits. The same mills also supply our ASTM A240, ASME SA240, JIS G4305 and AISI plate ranges, so mixed-standard orders can ship together.

FAQ

What is the difference between 321 and 321H?
321H (07Cr19Ni11Ti) requires carbon 0.04–0.10% and Ti 4×(C+N)–0.70%; 321 (06Cr18Ni11Ti) caps C at 0.08% with Ti ≥5×C. The guaranteed carbon and coarse grain give 321H better creep strength above about 540 °C.
What is the chemical composition of 07Cr19Ni11Ti?
Under GB/T 4237-2015 Table 15, 07Cr19Ni11Ti (S32169) has C 0.04 – 0.10, Cr 17.00 – 19.00, Ni 9.00 – 12.00; Ti: 4 × (C+N) – 0.70. Phosphorus is limited to ≤0.045% and sulfur to ≤0.030%.
What is the ASTM equivalent of 07Cr19Ni11Ti?
The closest equivalents of 07Cr19Ni11Ti (S32169) are Type 321H / S32109 in ASTM, X7CrNiTiB18-10 / 1.4941 (EN 10028-7) in EN (common name: 321H). Chemistry limits differ slightly, so dual certification depends on the actual heat.
What are the mechanical properties of 07Cr19Ni11Ti plate?
GB/T 4237-2015 Table 20 requires for 07Cr19Ni11Ti: proof strength Rp0.2 ≥205 MPa, tensile strength ≥515 MPa and elongation ≥40%, hardness ≤217 HBW. Values apply to plate in the delivery heat-treated condition.
Is 07Cr19Ni11Ti stainless steel magnetic?
Not in the annealed condition. 07Cr19Ni11Ti is austenitic, so annealed plate is essentially non-magnetic; cold work can induce slight magnetism, mostly at cut and bent edges.
What thickness of 07Cr19Ni11Ti plate can you supply?
Under GB/T 4237 we supply 07Cr19Ni11Ti hot-rolled plate in 3 – 100 mm, widths up to 2 000 mm (wider by mill order), cut to size in our warehouse. Thinner material is cold-rolled sheet to GB/T 3280.

Conclusion

GB/T 4237 07Cr19Ni11Ti (S32169) is a stabilized austenitic plate grade, known internationally as 321H. It is defined by Table 15 chemistry (C 0.04 – 0.10, Cr 17.00 – 19.00, Ni 9.00 – 12.00) and Table 20 properties of at least 205 MPa proof strength and 515 MPa tensile strength. Typical uses include boiler superheaters and reheaters, refinery heater tubesheets and high-temperature pressure parts. Specify grain size grade 7 or coarser if the plate is used to ASME creep allowables (clause 6.6).
