EN 10025-6 S460Q Steel Plate | S460Q QT High Structural Steel
What is EN 10025-6 S460Q Steel Plate?
SHH STEEL supplies high-performance structural steel plates as a China Mill-Direct Exporter. Our EN 10025-6 S460Q Steel Plate (Material Number 1.8908) is produced under the quenched and tempered route to achieve high strength while retaining adequate toughness.
This grade forms part of the EN 10025-6 steel plate series covering high-yield-strength steels in the quenched and tempered condition. After quenching and tempering, S460Q reaches a minimum yield strength of 460 MPa in thicknesses up to 50 mm and maintains reliable Charpy values at –20°C. The refined microstructure resulting from the QT process provides a favourable combination of strength, ductility and weldability for heavily loaded structures.
Standard supply covers thicknesses from 6 mm to 150 mm, widths up to 3000–4000 mm and lengths up to 12000–18000 mm. Cutting, surface treatment and testing services are available on request. All material is accompanied by EN 10204 3.1 certificates.

Chemical Composition
Ladle analysis limits according to EN 10025-6:
| Element | Max. Limit (%) |
|---|---|
| C | 0.20 |
| Si | 0.80 |
| Mn | 1.70 |
| P | 0.025 |
| S | 0.015 |
| Cr | 1.50 |
| Ni | 2.00 |
| Mo | 0.70 |
| Cu | 0.50 |
| Nb | 0.06 |
| V | 0.12 |
| Ti | 0.05 |
| B | 0.005 |
| N | 0.015 |
Product analysis values are permitted to be slightly higher. The carefully balanced alloy content supports hardenability during quenching while keeping the carbon equivalent within a weldable range.
Mechanical Properties
| Nominal Thickness (mm) | Min. Yield Strength ReH | Tensile Strength Rm | Min. Elongation | Impact Energy (long.) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ≤ 50 | 460 MPa | 550 – 720 MPa | 17 % | 30 J at –20 °C |
| 50 < t ≤ 100 | 440 MPa | 550 – 720 MPa | 17 % | 30 J at –20 °C |
| 100 < t ≤ 150 | 400 MPa | 500 – 670 MPa | 17 % | 30 J at –20 °C |
Density is approximately 7.85 g/cm³.
Delivery Conditions
Material is supplied exclusively in the quenched and tempered condition as defined by the standard. Optional processing offered by SHH STEEL includes shot blasting, shop priming, ultrasonic examination to EN 10160, through-thickness testing (Z15/Z25/Z35) and independent third-party inspection.
Tolerances
Dimensional accuracy follows EN 10029. Thickness, width, length and flatness tolerances can be selected according to the required class. Both mill edges and cut edges (flame or plasma) are available.
Weldability
S460Q can be welded successfully provided appropriate procedures are observed. Because of its higher strength level, preheating of thicker sections and the use of low-hydrogen consumables are normally required.
Typical consumable recommendations:
| Welding Process | Suitable Filler Materials |
|---|---|
| SMAW | E8018-G / E7018 |
| GMAW | ER80S-G / ER70S-6 |
| FCAW | E81T1-Ni1 / E71T-1 |
| SAW | Matching high-strength wire-flux pairs |
Heat-input control and interpass temperature management help preserve toughness in the heat-affected zone.
