EN 10088-2 X2CrNiMoN17-11-2 1.4406 Stainless Steel Plate
1.4406 stainless steel plate: product overview and SHH STEEL sourcing
EN 10088-2 X2CrNiMoN17-11-2 1.4406 stainless steel plate is a low-carbon, nitrogen-alloyed austenitic flat product supplied to EN 10088-2, the European standard for stainless steel sheet, plate and strip for general purposes. X2CrNiMoN17-11-2 contains up to 0.030 % carbon, 16.5 – 18.5 % chromium, 10.0 – 12.5 % nickel, 2.00 – 2.50 % molybdenum and 0.12 – 0.22 % nitrogen. The nitrogen raises the minimum proof strength of hot rolled plate to 280 MPa, against 220 MPa for 1.4404, and helps keep the austenite stable at the lower nickel level. EN 10088-2 lists 1.4406 as cold rolled strip up to 8 mm, continuously hot rolled strip up to 13.5 mm and hot rolled plate up to 75 mm, solution annealed. Table 7 rates it resistant to intergranular corrosion both as delivered and after sensitization.
SHH STEEL works as a steel sourcing partner with long-term relationships with Chinese stainless mills that roll austenitic CrNiMo hot rolled plate, coil and cold rolled sheet. For large tonnages, the buyer can contract directly with a suitable mill, with SHH STEEL assisting for a modest service fee and handling follow-up and documents. For small orders we consolidate demand, so that 1 – 5 t lots are placed against genuine mill production instead of stock of unknown origin. Each shipment can be released after third-party inspection by TUV, ABS, BV, DNV, CCS or an agency the buyer nominates, and payment by TT or LC is accepted. The rest of this page covers the technical side of EN 10088-2 1.4406 and the steps we take so that the sheet that arrives is the sheet that was ordered.
The table below lists the concerns buyers raise most often when sourcing EN 10088-2 X2CrNiMoN17-11-2 sheet and plate from China, and how SHH STEEL deals with each of them.
| Buyer Concern | SHH STEEL Solution |
|---|---|
| Fake material or certificates | 1.4406 is sometimes replaced by 1.4404 without the nitrogen addition; nitrogen is checked on the certificate and by laboratory analysis, carbon by spark OES and molybdenum by XRF. Partner laboratories handle chemical analysis, tensile, impact and IGC testing, and 3.2 certificates with third-party witness are available. |
| Unsafe deposit | Payment by TT, LC or a TT + LC combination. For large chemical or pressure equipment projects the buyer can contract directly with the mill, with SHH STEEL assisting for a small service fee. |
| Quantity below mill minimum | 1.4406 plate is often needed in small lots for a single vessel or skid. SHH STEEL consolidates orders so 1 – 5 t lots can join a mill rolling campaign. |
| Delivery delays | A dedicated person follows up the delivery schedule with the mill and reports progress at melting, rolling, annealing, pickling, testing and packing. |
| Fabrication needs | Our workshop provides plasma and laser cutting, sawing, slitting and bending, with protective film for visible surfaces. |
EN 10088-2 vs EN 10028-7 and ASTM A240: standard selection for X2CrNiMoN17-11-2 plate
1.4406 is the EN counterpart of UNS S31653, Type 316LN, in ASTM A240 (see AISI 316LN stainless steel plate). For pressure equipment it is ordered to EN 10028-7; see EN 10028-7 1.4406 pressure vessel plate.
| Item | EN 10088-2 1.4406 | ASTM A240-22 S31653 (316LN) | JIS SUS316LN |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carbon | ≤ 0.030 % | ≤ 0.030 % | ≤ 0.030 % |
| Chromium | 16.5 – 18.5 % | 16.0 – 18.0 % | 16.50 – 18.50 % |
| Nickel | 10.0 – 12.5 % | 10.0 – 14.0 % | 10.50 – 14.50 % |
| Molybdenum | 2.00 – 2.50 % | 2.00 – 3.00 % | 2.00 – 3.00 % |
| Nitrogen | 0.12 – 0.22 % | 0.10 – 0.16 % | 0.12 – 0.22 % |
The nitrogen ranges differ: a heat can meet both 1.4406 and S31653 only with nitrogen of 0.12 – 0.16 % and chromium of 16.5 – 18.0 %. JIS SUS316LN has the same nitrogen range as 1.4406 but needs at least 10.50 % nickel. SHH STEEL checks these overlaps when a buyer needs dual certification.
1.4406 is also listed in EN 10028-7:2016 for pressure purposes. That standard may set its own test and property requirements, which we have not reproduced here.

If your contract names the newer edition, SHH STEEL checks the order against that text before production, and any difference is raised at the quotation stage rather than after rolling.
1.4406 chemical composition: heat analysis and product analysis tolerances
The 1.4406 chemical composition below is the cast (heat) analysis from EN 10088-2:2014 Table 1. Values are percentages by mass; a single figure is a maximum.
| C | Si | Mn | P | S | Cr | Mo | Ni | N |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0.030 | 1.00 | 2.00 | 0.045 | 0.015 | 16.5 – 18.5 | 2.00 – 2.50 | 10.0 – 12.5 | 0.12 – 0.22 |
The 1.4406 nitrogen of 0.12 – 0.22 % is what separates it from 1.4404, and its nickel range is slightly lower (10.0 – 12.5 %). Footnote b to Table 1 permits controlled sulphur ranges: 0.015 – 0.030 % for machinability, 0.008 – 0.015 % for weldability, and 0.015 % max. for polishability. SHH STEEL checks nitrogen, carbon and molybdenum on every certificate as part of the 1.4406 chemical composition review.
Product analysis tolerances (EN 10088-2 Table 5)
A product analysis is a check made on the delivered sheet. It is not mandatory under EN 10088-2; it is carried out when agreed at the time of enquiry and order, and SHH STEEL can arrange it through a partner laboratory. The permissible tolerances on the cast limits are:
| Element | Cast limit, % | Permissible tolerance, % | Product analysis limit, % |
|---|---|---|---|
| C | ≤ 0.030 | + 0.005 | ≤ 0.035 |
| Si | ≤ 1.00 | + 0.05 | ≤ 1.05 |
| Mn | ≤ 2.00 | ± 0.04 | ≤ 2.04 |
| P | ≤ 0.045 | + 0.005 | ≤ 0.050 |
| S | ≤ 0.015 | + 0.003 | ≤ 0.018 |
| Cr | 16.5 – 18.5 | ± 0.20 | 16.30 – 18.70 |
| Mo | 2.00 – 2.50 | ± 0.10 | 1.90 – 2.60 |
| Ni | 10.0 – 12.5 | ± 0.10 (≤ 10.0) / ± 0.15 (> 10.0) | 9.90 – 12.65 |
| N | 0.12 – 0.22 | ± 0.02 | 0.10 – 0.24 |
Where several product analyses are made on one cast, individual results may exceed the maximum or fall below the minimum, but not both for the same element. If a product analysis is required, it should be stated in the order together with the Table 5 tolerances.
1.4406 mechanical properties: solution annealed condition
The 1.4406 mechanical properties below are the room-temperature values from EN 10088-2:2014 Table 7 for austenitic steels in the solution annealed condition. Test pieces are transverse; the A80 elongation applies below 3 mm and the proportional elongation A from 3 mm.
| Product form | Max. thickness, mm | Rp0.2 min, MPa | Rp1.0 min, MPa | Rm, MPa | A80 min, % (< 3 mm) | A min, % (≥ 3 mm) | KV2 min, J (> 10 mm, long. / tr.) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| C – cold rolled strip | 8 | 300 | 330 | 580 – 780 | 40 | 40 | — |
| H – hot rolled strip | 13.5 | 280 | 320 | 580 – 780 | 40 | 40 | 100 / 60 |
| P – hot rolled plate | 75 | 280 | 320 | 580 – 780 | 40 | 40 | 100 / 60 |
Rp1.0 values are for guidance only. For continuously hot rolled products, 20 MPa higher minimum Rp0.2 and 10 MPa higher Rp1.0 may be agreed. For strip in rolling widths below 300 mm tested longitudinally, the minimum proof strength is reduced by 15 MPa and elongation by 5 % (constant gauge) or 2 % (proportional gauge). For bigger sizes than those listed, mechanical values are to be agreed.
Table 7 rates 1.4406 resistance to intergranular corrosion (EN ISO 3651-2) as “yes” in both the delivery condition and the sensitized condition.
Cold worked condition (process route 2H)
EN 10088-2 Tables 19 and 20 list no cold worked (2H) strength levels for 1.4406, so the grade is ordered in the solution annealed condition (+AT). Where a higher strength is needed, 1.4401 (+C700 and +C850) is the usual options.
Minimum proof strength at elevated temperature (EN 10088-2 Table 12, +AT)
| Temperature, °C | 100 | 150 | 200 | 250 | 300 | 350 | 400 | 450 | 500 | 550 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rp0.2 min, MPa | 211 | 185 | 167 | 155 | 145 | 140 | 135 | 131 | 128 | 127 |
| Rp1.0 min, MPa | 246 | 218 | 198 | 183 | 175 | 169 | 164 | 160 | 158 | 157 |
EN 10088-2 Table 12 gives values from 100 °C to 550 °C for this grade, for the solution annealed condition (+AT). They are minimum values for design and are not tested unless agreed.
Heat treatment of X2CrNiMoN17-11-2: solution annealing
EN 10088-2 Table A.1 gives the following guideline temperatures for 1.4406:
| Operation | Temperature, °C | Cooling |
|---|---|---|
| Hot forming | 1 150 – 850 | Air |
| Solution annealing (+AT) | 1 030 – 1 110 | Water or air, sufficiently rapid to avoid intergranular corrosion |
The footnotes to Table A.1 state that with a continuous furnace the upper part of the range is usually preferred or even exceeded, and that the lower end of the range should be aimed at when the heat treatment is part of further processing, because otherwise the mechanical properties may be affected. Solution annealing may be omitted if hot working and cooling achieve the required mechanical properties and resistance to intergranular corrosion.
The Euro Inox tables give the same 1 030 – 1 110 °C range with cooling in air or water. Material is delivered as +AT.
Physical properties of 1.4406 austenitic plate
The values below are approximate reference figures for X2CrNiMoN17-11-2 at room temperature, from the worldstainless “Tables of Technical Properties”, which follow EN 10088-1. They are suitable for design estimates and weight calculation; where a figure is critical, use EN 10088-1 itself.
| Property | Approximate value |
|---|---|
| Density | about 8.0 g/cm³ |
| Modulus of elasticity at 20 °C | about 200 GPa |
| Mean thermal expansion, 20 – 200 °C | 16.5 × 10⁻⁶ /K |
| Thermal conductivity at 20 °C | 15 W/(m·K) |
| Specific heat at 20 °C | about 500 J/(kg·K) |
| Electrical resistivity at 20 °C | 0.75 Ω·mm²/m |
| Magnetic behaviour | Essentially non-magnetic when solution annealed; magnetism increases with cold work |
The worldstainless table gives 1.4406 the same density, modulus, expansion, conductivity and resistivity as 1.4404. 1.4406 is not listed in the EN 10088-1 extract by Häuselmann that we use for magnetic behaviour, so the magnetic statement above is the general austenitic one; nitrogen is an austenite stabiliser, so annealed plate is expected to behave like 1.4404.
Corrosion behaviour of X2CrNiMoN17-11-2 1.4406
The Euro Inox fabrication tables list 1.4406 for equipment in the chemical, food-processing and textile industries and for pressure vessels. EN 10088-2 Table 7 rates its resistance to intergranular corrosion, tested to EN ISO 3651-2, as “yes” in the delivery condition and “yes” in the sensitized condition. Its chromium and molybdenum ranges are the same as those of 1.4404.
| Environment | Typical behaviour |
|---|---|
| Chloride-containing water | Comparable to 1.4404 (same Cr and Mo ranges) |
| Non-oxidising acids | Improved over CrNi grades owing to molybdenum |
| Welded plate | Resistant to intergranular corrosion (Table 7: yes) |
| Chemical and textile equipment | Listed end use (Euro Inox) |
| Seawater and warm chlorides | Check case by case; higher-Mo or duplex grades may be needed |
The choice between 1.4406 and EN 10088-2 1.4404 plate is usually made on strength rather than corrosion resistance; the CrNi counterpart without molybdenum is EN 10088-2 1.4311 plate.
As EN 10088-2 notes, corrosion resistance depends strongly on the environment and cannot always be judged from laboratory tests, so experience with the grade in similar service should be used.
Weldability of 1.4406 austenitic plate: SHH STEEL workshop practice
1.4406 is readily weldable by the common processes.
- The Euro Inox fabrication tables rate TIG/MIG, manual metal arc and resistance welding as suitable for 1.4406, and autogenous welding as suitable with restrictions.
- Filler materials listed are 1.4430 and 1.4455.
- EN 10088-2 Table 7 rates 1.4406 “yes” for intergranular corrosion after sensitization.
- EN 10088-2 does not specify welding procedures; these are published guidelines and general practice.
These points reflect industry practice for austenitic CrNiMo stainless steels rather than requirements of EN 10088-2, which does not specify welding procedures. In the SHH STEEL workshop, blanks and slit strips are cut with clean, burr-free edges so that seam, spot and tube welding run without edge preparation problems.
Forming, cold working and cutting of X2CrNiMoN17-11-2 in the SHH STEEL workshop
Annealed 1.4406 forms with standard austenitic practice, but its higher proof strength means more forming force and springback than 1.4404 for the same thickness, which should be allowed for in press brake and rolling settings.
Thick plate is cut by plasma or waterjet, and sheet by laser or shearing. Machining needs sharp tools and positive feeds to avoid work hardening at the cut.
We run our own workshop next to the warehouse, so 1.4406 hot rolled plate and X2CrNiMoN17-11-2 plate blanks can be delivered cut to size, laser-cut or bent, with protective film on visible surfaces. Details are on our steel cutting services and bending and forming services pages.
1.4406 plate sizes, thickness limits and tolerances
1.4406 is listed in EN 10088-2 as cold rolled strip, continuously hot rolled strip and hot rolled plate, all solution annealed.
| Product form | Thickness range covered by EN 10088-2 | Typical width supplied (by mill) | Tolerance standard |
|---|---|---|---|
| C – cold rolled strip and sheet | up to 8 mm | confirmed at enquiry | EN ISO 9445-1 / EN ISO 9445-2 |
| H – continuously hot rolled strip and plate | up to 13.5 mm | confirmed at enquiry | EN ISO 9444-2 |
| P – hot rolled (quarto) plate | up to 75 mm in Table 7; thicker plate by agreement | confirmed at enquiry | EN ISO 18286 |
EN 10088-2 Table 7 gives mechanical values for hot rolled plate up to 75 mm; for bigger sizes the mechanical values shall be agreed at the time of enquiry and order. Under section 6.9 of the standard, EN ISO 18286 normally applies only to individually rolled quarto plate, while continuously rolled material follows EN ISO 9444-2.
SHH STEEL can supply 1.4406 hot rolled plate and coil, and 1.4406 cold rolled sheet, in standard sizes or cut to your drawing.
Surface finishes for EN 10088-2 X2CrNiMoN17-11-2 plate
Surface finish is ordered by the process route symbols of EN 10088-2 Table 6; trade names from ASTM and JIS are shown for reference. Not every route is available for every grade, and the mill confirms which ones it can supply.
| EN symbol | Description | Common trade name | Use for 1.4406 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1D | Hot rolled, heat treated, pickled | No.1 | Hot rolled plate and strip; usual standard for most steel types |
| 1E | Hot rolled, heat treated, mechanically descaled | — | Plate for further processing |
| 2D | Cold rolled, heat treated, pickled | No.2D | Formed parts; good ductility |
| 2B | Cold rolled, heat treated, pickled, skin passed | 2B | General cold rolled supply |
| 2R | Cold rolled, bright annealed | BA | Visible parts; smoother and brighter than 2B |
| 1J / 2J | Brushed or dull polished | No.4 | Visible panels; grit or roughness to be agreed |
The No.1, No.4 and BA cross-references follow worldstainless and IMOA comparison tables; EN 10088-2 itself defines only the EN symbols, and not every route is available for every grade. Special finishes such as 1J and 2J apply to one surface unless otherwise agreed. The Euro Inox tables give no polishability rating for 1.4406, so a polished finish should be agreed with the mill.
1.4406 equivalent grades: ASTM, GB and JIS cross-reference
The usual 1.4406 equivalent, and the answer to most 316LN equivalent enquiries, is UNS S31653.
| System | Nearest grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| EN / ISO | X2CrNiMoN17-11-2 / 1.4406 | Reference grade |
| ASTM / ASME | UNS S31653 (ASTM A240) | Close; N 0.10 – 0.16 %, Ni 10.0 – 14.0 %, Mo 2.00 – 3.00 % |
| China (GB) | GB/T 4237 022Cr17Ni12Mo2N S31653 plate (GB/T 20878; GB/T 3280) | Close; C ≤ 0.030 %, Ni 10.00 – 14.00 %, Mo 2.00 – 3.00 %, N 0.10 – 0.16 % (GB/T 4237-2007 table) |
| Japan (JIS) | JIS G4304 / G4305 SUS316LN | Close; Ni 10.50 – 14.50 %, N 0.12 – 0.22 % |
For Chinese pressure vessels the grade is ordered as GB/T 713.7 S31653 pressure vessel plate. Both the ASTM and the GB grade cap nitrogen at 0.16 %, so a heat near the top of the 1.4406 range would not meet them.
1.4406 vs 1.4404 and 1.4401
Compared with EN 10088-2 1.4404 plate, 1.4406 adds 0.12 – 0.22 % nitrogen, which raises the plate minimum proof strength from 220 to 280 MPa and the tensile range from 520 – 670 to 580 – 780 MPa; both are rated “yes” for intergranular corrosion after sensitization. Compared with EN 10088-2 1.4401 plate, it has lower carbon and higher strength.
Applications of 1.4406 austenitic plate
Typical applications of 1.4406 plate and sheet listed in the Euro Inox fabrication tables include:
- Chemical industry equipment
- Food-processing equipment
- Textile industry equipment
- Pressure vessels (to EN 10028-7)
- Welded parts where higher proof strength allows thinner walls
For pressure equipment, 1.4406 plate is ordered to EN 10028-7; for other uses, EN 10088-2 applies.
Buyers choose 1.4406 when 1.4404 is suitable for corrosion but a higher design strength is wanted. SHH STEEL can compare wall thickness and cost for both grades.
Common buyer concerns and our solutions
For 1.4406 the main risks are missing nitrogen, certificates that only show 316LN limits, and confusion with 1.4429, which has more molybdenum.
| Concern | What Usually Happens | How SHH STEEL Handles It |
|---|---|---|
| No nitrogen | 1.4404 supplied as 1.4406. | Nitrogen and proof strength checked on the certificate. |
| 316LN-only certificate | N 0.10 – 0.12 % meets 316LN but not 1.4406. | Dual certification checked against both standards. |
| Grade confusion | 1.4429 (higher Mo) ordered by mistake. | Steel number confirmed in the order. |
| Wrong standard | EN 10088-2 plate is used where EN 10028-7 is required. | The governing standard is confirmed before ordering. |
| Finish mismatch | 2B arrives when 2R or 2J was needed. | The finish symbol and any grit are written into the order. |
None of these steps is complicated, but they need to be agreed at the start. When you send an enquiry, tell us which of these points matters most to you, and the order will be built around it.
Testing, certificates and lead time at SHH STEEL
Every 1.4406 order is supported by documents and checks that make the material traceable to the heat:
- Cast analysis with carbon, nitrogen, nickel and molybdenum checked
- Tensile test (transverse) to Table 7
- Impact test for plate over 10 mm when agreed
- Intergranular corrosion test to EN ISO 3651-2 when agreed
- Thickness, flatness and surface inspection
- Additional checks through our third-party testing service: PMI, dimensional, flatness and surface inspection
If the order does not name an inspection document, EN 10088-2 requires only a test report 2.2. Because this is rarely enough for chemical, food and pressure equipment or export work, SHH STEEL supplies an EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificate as standard and a 3.2 certificate when an independent inspector (TUV, ABS, BV, DNV, CCS or an agency you nominate) witnesses testing and countersigns the document.
Ordering example and lead time
Following the pattern of the example in EN 10088-2, a typical order line would read: 8 plates, 12 mm × 2 000 mm × 6 000 mm, EN ISO 18286, EN 10088-2, steel X2CrNiMoN17-11-2 (1.4406), process route 1D, inspection certificate 3.1 to EN 10204. Mill production lead time is generally 30 – 40 days from order confirmation, depending on the rolling schedule, the size and the tests requested. Consolidated small lots follow the same mill schedule, and we send progress updates at rolling, testing and packing.

FAQ
- What is 1.4406 stainless steel equivalent to?
- The usual equivalent is UNS S31653, Type 316LN, in ASTM A240 and ASME SA-240. It is close but not identical: ASTM A240-22 allows 0.10 – 0.16 % nitrogen, 16.0 – 18.0 % chromium, 10.0 – 14.0 % nickel and 2.00 – 3.00 % molybdenum, while 1.4406 has 0.12 – 0.22 % nitrogen, 16.5 – 18.5 % chromium, 10.0 – 12.5 % nickel and 2.00 – 2.50 % molybdenum. The Chinese grade 022Cr17Ni12Mo2N, ISC code S31653, uses the same 0.10 – 0.16 % nitrogen range. JIS SUS316LN matches the 1.4406 nitrogen range of 0.12 – 0.22 % but needs at least 10.50 % nickel. A heat with nitrogen of 0.12 – 0.16 % and chromium up to 18.0 % can be dual certified, and SHH STEEL checks this before accepting the order.
- What is the chemical composition of 1.4406?
- EN 10088-2:2014 Table 1 gives a cast analysis of maximum 0.030 % carbon, 1.00 % silicon, 2.00 % manganese, 0.045 % phosphorus and 0.015 % sulphur, with 16.5 – 18.5 % chromium, 2.00 – 2.50 % molybdenum, 10.0 – 12.5 % nickel and 0.12 – 0.22 % nitrogen. A footnote permits controlled sulphur ranges for machinability, weldability or polishability. If a product analysis is agreed, Table 5 allows + 0.005 % on carbon, ± 0.20 % on chromium, ± 0.10 % on molybdenum, ± 0.15 % on nickel above 10 % and ± 0.02 % on nitrogen. Nitrogen is the key element: without it the steel is effectively 1.4404 and will not reach the higher proof strength. SHH STEEL checks nitrogen, carbon and molybdenum on every mill certificate and can arrange independent analysis.
- What are the mechanical properties of 1.4406 plate?
- EN 10088-2:2014 Table 7 gives values for the solution annealed condition. Hot rolled plate up to 75 mm and continuously hot rolled strip up to 13.5 mm need a minimum 0.2 % proof strength of 280 MPa, a minimum 1 % proof strength of 320 MPa for guidance, a tensile strength of 580 – 780 MPa and at least 40 % elongation. Cold rolled strip up to 8 mm needs 300 MPa proof strength with the same tensile range. For plate over 10 mm, impact energy is at least 100 J longitudinal or 60 J transverse. Table 12 gives minimum proof strengths up to 550 °C, for example 145 MPa Rp0.2 at 300 °C against 118 MPa for 1.4404. SHH STEEL can arrange witnessed tensile and impact tests for 3.2 certificates.
- What is the difference between 1.4406 and 1.4404?
- Both are low-carbon molybdenum austenitic grades with the same chromium and molybdenum ranges, and EN 10088-2 Table 7 rates both “yes” for intergranular corrosion after sensitization. The difference is nitrogen: 1.4406 contains 0.12 – 0.22 %, while 1.4404 allows only up to 0.10 %, and 1.4406 has a slightly lower nickel range of 10.0 – 12.5 %. The nitrogen raises the hot rolled plate minimum proof strength from 220 to 280 MPa and the tensile range from 520 – 670 to 580 – 780 MPa, with minimum elongation of 40 % against 45 %. At elevated temperature the gap is similar in Table 12. Buyers choose 1.4406 when higher design stresses allow thinner walls. SHH STEEL can quote both grades side by side for comparison.
- Can 1.4406 be welded?
- Yes. 1.4406 is readily weldable. The Euro Inox fabrication tables rate TIG, MIG, manual metal arc and resistance welding as suitable and autogenous welding as suitable with restrictions, and list filler materials 1.4430 and 1.4455. EN 10088-2 Table 7 rates 1.4406 resistant to intergranular corrosion after sensitization, when tested to EN ISO 3651-2. Because the base metal is stronger than 1.4404, the fabricator should check that the chosen filler and procedure meet the design strength of the joint. EN 10088-2 does not specify welding procedures, so the fabricator's qualified procedure governs filler choice, heat input and interpass temperature. SHH STEEL can supply test plates from the same heat for procedure qualification, together with the production certificates showing nitrogen and proof strength for the heat.
- What is the lead time and minimum order for 1.4406 plate and sheet?
- Mill production lead time is usually 30 – 40 days from order confirmation, depending on the rolling schedule, the thickness, the finish and the tests required. 1.4406 needs a nitrogen-controlled melt and may be rolled less often than 1.4404, so the date and available sizes should be confirmed at enquiry; thick plate may need a particular campaign. Mill minimum quantities for a dedicated rolling are often higher than a single project needs. SHH STEEL consolidates several customer orders into one mill campaign, which makes lots of 1 – 5 t practical. For larger tonnages, a buyer can contract directly with a suitable mill, with SHH STEEL assisting for a modest service fee. Workshop cutting normally adds a few days, and an agreed intergranular corrosion or impact test can add a little more.
Ordering EN 10088-2 1.4406 Plate from SHH STEEL
EN 10088-2 X2CrNiMoN17-11-2 1.4406 is the nitrogen-alloyed 316LN-type austenitic steel, supplied as hot rolled plate up to 75 mm and cold rolled sheet where 1.4404 corrosion resistance and higher strength are both needed. Choosing it is the easy part. Getting genuine material that matches the certificate, in the gauge and finish your parts need and on a predictable schedule, is where a sourcing partner earns its place, and that is the work SHH STEEL does every day through long-term mill cooperation, consolidation and its own workshop.
The next step is simple. Send SHH STEEL your drawing, or an enquiry with the quantity, thickness, width, finish and delivery destination, and we will judge whether a direct mill contract or consolidation with processing fits your order better, and quote accordingly. Send your sizes and quantities for a quotation.
